Job summary

BlackSea Technologies is seeking a Data Collector/Technical Writer to support the development and maintenance of technical documentation for platforms such as sUSV and their subsystems. You will observe, record, and organize technical activities on the shop floor and ensure documents comply with SOPs and formatting standards.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of data collection or technical writing experience, strong written and verbal communication, proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years in data collection or technical writing.
  • Strong knowledge of documentation practices, formatting, style guides, version control, and structured authoring.
  • Experience editing operations manuals, PSBs, or test procedures.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to follow templates with attention to grammar, clarity, and consistency.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, training, production, technician, and program management teams.
  • Highly organized with strong time-management skills.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for DoD security clearance if required.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities
  • This position is not hands-on or tool-based but requires physical presence in workshop and shop floor settings.
  • Ideal for individuals who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoy being immersed in the day-to-day activity of engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • A motivated and detail-oriented Data Collector/Technical Writer to support the development and maintenance of technical documentation for different platforms such as Small Unmanned Surface Vessels (sUSV) and their subsystems, including software, electronics and general support equipment.
  • The position involves working on the floor in shop environments, observing, recording, and organizing technical activities and processes as they occur. While not a hands-on mechanical or technical role, the position requires prolonged standing.
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as standardized document formats and styles across the BlackSea family of platforms. Serve as a quality control gate for drafted documents, ensuring proper configuration, formatting, and compliance with internal standards before distribution.
Travel

Up to 10% of the time within the United States.

Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in data collection or technical writing, or an equivalent combination of education and training (e.g., an associate degree or relevant technical certification).
  • Strong knowledge of technical documentation practices, including formatting, style guides, version control, and structured authoring.
  • Experience working with or editing documents such as operations manuals, Product Technical Bulletins (PSBs), or test procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to follow standard templates to collect required information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong grasp of grammar, clarity, and document consistency.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, training, production, technician, and program management teams.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong task prioritization and time management skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required; must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance, if necessary.
Salary

$22 to $26 Per Hour
