TEKsystems is seeking a Level 2 Overnight Data Center Technician to support critical IT infrastructure at a San Jose data center. The role covers hardware installs, troubleshooting, rack and stack, cabling, and ensuring uptime across server and network gear.

Responsibilities

• Perform server and network hardware installations, upgrades, decommissions.
• Execute rack and stack activities, including rail installation and cable management.
• Troubleshoot hardware failures across servers, storage, and network gear.
• Install, route, label, test, and maintain fiber and copper cabling.
• Patch between racks, patch panels, switches, and network devices.
• Replace failed components such as drives, memory, PSUs, NICs, fans.
• Support break/fix tickets and resolve incidents per SLAs.
• Conduct physical audits, inventory management, asset tracking.
• Monitor environmental/infrastructure systems for availability.
• Follow change management, escalation, and maintenance procedures.
• Document work and troubleshooting steps; update inventory.
• Provide technical support during maintenance windows and deployments.
• Collaborate with network, systems, and engineering teams on projects.

Level 2 Overnight Data Center Technician

Shift: Overnight (8 PM- 7 AM or similar rotating schedule)

Employment Type: Full-Time/Hourly

Location: San Jose, CA

Position Overview

We are seeking a Level 2 Overnight Data Center Technician to support critical IT infrastructure within a large-scale data center environment. This role is responsible for hardware installations, troubleshooting, break/fix activities, rack and stack deployments, structured cabling, and maintaining operational excellence across server and network infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with server hardware, fiber and copper cabling, data center operations, and technical troubleshooting. This position requires the ability to work independently during overnight shifts while adhering to strict operational and safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform server and network hardware installations, upgrades, and decommissions.


• Execute rack and stack activities including rail installation, server mounting, and cable management.


• Troubleshoot hardware failures involving servers, storage systems, and network equipment.


• Install, route, label, test, and maintain fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure.


• Perform patching between racks, patch panels, switches, and network devices.


• Replace failed components such as hard drives, memory, power supplies, NICs, and fans.


• Support break/fix tickets and resolve incidents within established SLAs.


• Conduct physical audits, inventory management, and asset tracking.


• Monitor environmental and infrastructure systems to ensure operational availability.


• Follow change management, escalation, and maintenance procedures.


• Document completed work, troubleshooting steps, and inventory updates.


• Provide technical support during maintenance windows and planned deployments.


• Work closely with network, systems, and engineering teams to support infrastructure projects.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in a data center, critical environment, or IT infrastructure role.


• Experience performing rack and stack deployments.


• Knowledge of server hardware and component replacement.


• Experience with copper and fiber optic cabling standards and best practices.


• Understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, Ethernet, switches, and routers.


• Ability to troubleshoot hardware, connectivity, and infrastructure issues.


• Familiarity with ticketing systems and technical documentation.


• Comfortable working overnight shifts in a 24x7 operational environment.


• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in raised-floor or large-scale data center environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting enterprise or hyperscale data centers.


• CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, or equivalent certifications.


• Knowledge of Linux or Windows Server environments.


• Experience with structured cabling installation and testing.


• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.


• Experience using DCIM tools and asset management systems.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of San Jose, CA.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
