Job description

The Data Center Technician L2 performs intermediate-level deployment, hardware maintenance, diagnostics, asset management, and operational support activities within production and non-production data center environments. This role is responsible for executing customer-directed procedures supporting AI infrastructure, accelerator platforms, server hardware, networking equipment, and associated operational systems.

The Data Center Technician L2 serves as an independent technical resource capable of performing hardware installations, break-fix activities, inventory management, structured cabling, and operational readiness tasks with minimal supervision. The role requires strong attention to detail, procedural discipline, technical aptitude, and the ability to execute work safely within mission-critical environments.

This position plays a key role in maintaining operational reliability, deployment quality, and service delivery performance across hyperscale and high-performance computing environments.

How You Will Make an Impact
Hardware Deployment & Integration
  • Install, rack, cable, and deploy servers, storage systems, accelerator platforms, and networking equipment.
  • Execute hardware deployment activities according to approved floor plans, rack elevations, and customer deployment standards.
  • Perform structured copper and fiber cabling installation, routing, labeling, and validation.
  • Support equipment commissioning, operational readiness, and deployment acceptance testing activities.
  • Verify installation quality through physical audits and deployment inspections.
Hardware Maintenance & Break-Fix
  • Perform customer-directed hardware diagnostics and repair procedures.
  • Execute FRU (Field Replaceable Unit) replacements on servers, networking equipment, and accelerator platforms.
  • Troubleshoot hardware failures using established operating procedures and diagnostic tools.
  • Support RMA activities, including failed component identification, replacement, documentation, and chain-of-custody tracking.
  • Perform return-to-service validation testing following maintenance activities.
Asset & Inventory Management
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for servers, networking equipment, accelerators, spare parts, and customer-owned assets.
  • Perform inventory audits, cycle counts, and reconciliation activities.
  • Track serialized assets throughout deployment, operational, and decommissioning lifecycles.
  • Assist with spare parts management and replenishment activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all equipment movements and asset transactions.
Operational Support
  • Monitor operational conditions and identify infrastructure issues requiring escalation.
  • Perform smart hands activities under customer direction, including equipment reseats, cable tracing, hardware swaps, console access, and physical inspections.
  • Support equipment moves, additions, changes, and decommissioning activities.
  • Assist with operational readiness reviews and maintenance planning activities.
  • Participate in shift turnover processes and communicate operational concerns effectively.
Network & Cabling Support
  • Support fiber and copper infrastructure deployments.
  • Install and replace optics, cables, and networking hardware.
  • Perform cable tracing, labeling verification, and connectivity validation.
  • Assist with OOB (Out-of-Band) and console infrastructure support activities.
  • Execute physical-layer network tasks under customer engineering direction.
Documentation & Quality Assurance
  • Maintain accurate records of all completed work activities.
  • Update inventory systems, ticketing platforms, deployment records, and operational documentation.
  • Support creation and validation of as-built documentation.
  • Verify compliance with customer deployment, labeling, and quality standards.
  • Ensure all work activities are accurately documented and auditable.
Safety, Security & Compliance
  • Adhere to all site security, access control, and operational procedures.
  • Follow Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies and safe work practices.
  • Participate in required safety training and compliance programs.
  • Maintain awareness of operational risks and elevate concerns appropriately.
  • Support audit readiness and compliance initiatives.
Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Data Center Technicians, Network Technicians, Facilities personnel, Security teams, and site leadership.
  • Provide guidance and support to entry-level technicians.
  • Assist with onboarding and training activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and customer-focused communication at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience supporting data center operations, hardware deployment, or infrastructure support environments.
  • Experience installing and maintaining server, storage, and networking hardware.
  • Ability to execute detailed technical procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with ticketing systems, inventory systems, and operational documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting hyperscale, cloud, AI, HPC, or enterprise data center environments.
  • Familiarity with GPU, accelerator, or high-density compute infrastructure.
  • Experience performing hardware diagnostics and component replacement activities.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling standards and fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with asset management and inventory control processes.
  • Experience supporting 24x7 operational environments.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, OOB infrastructure, and console connectivity.
  • Vendor certifications or data center certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods within active data center environments.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to install equipment in racks and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to climb ladders and perform physical deployment activities.
  • Ability to work in hot aisle/cold aisle environments and varying operational conditions.
Work Environment

This position operates within a mission-critical data center environment supporting advanced AI and accelerated computing infrastructure. Work includes deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, inventory management, and operational support activities involving large-scale server, networking, and accelerator platforms.

The Data Center Technician L2 is expected to work independently, execute customer-directed procedures with precision, and contribute to the reliability, performance, and operational excellence of the data center environment.
