Position Summary
The Data Center Technician focuses on maintaining operational integrity and regulatory compliance for electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems in NTT Global Data Centers, ensuring high data center uptime while minimizing operational costs.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop innovative solutions to reduce operational costs and improve efficiency.
- Oversee mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, and building monitoring systems.
- Perform mechanical maintenance on chilled water systems, HVAC (roof‑top units, CRAC/CRAH units, humidification systems).
- Maintain electrical critical power distribution from utility/generator switchgear through UPS to customer load.
- Execute fire life safety operations on wet sprinkler and pre‑action sprinkler systems and detection devices.
- Test electromechanical assemblies and use electronic voltmeters.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical orders to determine process flow.
- Inspect parts for defects and install or assemble hardware with hand or power tools.
- Operate monitoring systems and respond promptly to abnormal conditions, supporting preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
- Analyze system performance for internal and external customers, providing feedback to DCO Engineering and coordinating with contractors for expansions, corrections, or upgrades.
- Support the CF Ops Lead Technician in managing preventive maintenance and safety programs.
- Maintain accurate logs, document findings, and perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems used in data center environments (e.g., transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, pre‑action sprinkler systems).
- Proficiency with NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and building code compliance related to fire life safety.
- Knowledge of industrial safety best practices, including lockout/tag‑out, arc flash protection, OSHA, and state regulations.
- Familiarity with data trending/tracking, analysis, and PC‑based integrated critical monitoring systems.
- Hands‑on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems (e.g., centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, VFDs, pumps, HVAC equipment, BMS, PLC controls, diesel generators).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Strong coordination, supervision, and communication with contractors.
- Rapid learning ability and capacity to address issues during normal and after‑hours work.
- Logical analysis and problem‑solving skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools, electrical tools, and forklift.
- Comfort in high‑stress, fast‑paced environments with shifting priorities.
Education & Experience
- Associate of Science in Technology or equivalent education.
- Minimum 3 years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (data center, hospital, semiconductor, or power plant).
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- CPR/First Aid and NFPA 70E certification during employment.
- OSHA‑approved forklift certification required or ability to obtain one after hire.
Physical & Work Conditions
Primarily walking, standing, bending, occasional sitting; visual precision for computer work; manual dexterity to operate equipment and keyboards; lifting up to 50 lbs; climbing ladders and working on raised platforms.
Work environment: Data center with varying temperatures, loud noises, and extensive daily workstation usage. On‑site work only; no telecommuting permitted.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly base salary: $33.90–$50.90, with overtime eligibility. Eligible for an annual bonus dependent on performance. Benefits include paid time‑off, medical, dental, vision, life and supplemental insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, flexible spending account, and 401(k) retirement plan.
