Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking experienced Fiber Data Center Technicians to support large-scale data center operations in Temple, TX. You will handle fiber patching, testing, and connectivity verification within MDF/IDF environments, ensuring proper cable management and documentation.

The role requires hands-on fiber experience, knowledge of patch panels, LC connectors, and Layer 1 troubleshooting. This is a on-site contract position with benefits and standard data center safety practices.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with fiber optic infrastructure in data centers.
• Experience with fiber patch panels, LC connectors, testing and fault isolation.
• Knowledge of ISP fiber standards and best practices.
• Ability to read labels, document connections, and maintain records.

Responsibilities

• Install, patch, terminate, and manage fiber optic cabling in data centers.
• Work in MDF and IDF closets to ensure fiber connectivity and cable organization.
• Perform fiber testing and troubleshooting using OTDR, VFL, Fluke equipment.
• Inspect, clean, and maintain fiber connections per best practices.
• Verify link connectivity and troubleshoot issues.
• Label cables and maintain cable records in documentation systems.
• Ensure correct cable routing and bend radius requirements.
• Maintain patch panels and support ongoing maintenance activities.
• Support network connectivity validation and basic Layer 1 troubleshooting.

Fiber Data Center Technician

We are seeking experienced Fiber Data Center Technicians to support large-scale data center operations. This role is responsible for fiber optic patching, testing, troubleshooting, labeling, and connectivity verification within MDF and IDF environments. Successful candidates will have hands‑on experience working with fiber patch panels, terminating and managing LC fiber connections, and ensuring network connectivity across critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, patch, terminate, and manage fiber optic cabling within data center environments.
• Work within MDF and IDF closets to ensure proper fiber connectivity and cable organization.
• Perform fiber testing and troubleshooting using industry-standard tools such as:
  • Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR)
  • Visual Fault Locator (VFL)
  • Fluke testing equipment
  • Power meters and other fiber testing tools
• Inspect, clean, and maintain fiber optic connections following established best practices.
• Verify link connectivity and troubleshoot connectivity issues as needed.
• Label cables accurately and maintain cable records within network documentation systems.
• Ensure proper cable routing, cable management, and adherence to bend radius requirements.
• Maintain organized patch panels and support ongoing infrastructure maintenance activities.
• Support network connectivity validation and assist with Layer 1 troubleshooting efforts.
• Follow data center safety and operational standards while working in active production environments.

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience working with fiber optic infrastructure in a data center environment.
• Hands‑on experience with:
  • Fiber patch panels
  • LC fiber connectors
  • Fiber testing and certification
  • Fiber troubleshooting and fault isolation
• Knowledge of ISP fiber standards and best practices.
• Experience performing fiber cleaning and inspection procedures.
• Understanding of Layer 1 networking concepts, connectivity, and fiber troubleshooting methodologies.
• Experience reading labels, documenting connections, and maintaining accurate records.
• Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with:
  • Fusion splicing
  • Fiber optic splicing
  • Structured cabling installations
  • Cat6 cabling
• Familiarity with data center infrastructure management tools and cable documentation systems.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Temple, TX.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $42.00/hr.
