Wesco, a leading B2B distributor, is seeking a Data Center Technician in Virginia to support assembly, integration, testing and deployment prep of liquid-cooled data center rack solutions for AI, HPC, and enterprise environments.

You will perform hands‑on rack builds, install servers and networking gear, connect CDUs and manifolds, run tests, document results, and ensure safety and quality. Some travel to customer sites may be required (0–25%).

Qualifications

  • High School Degree or Equivalent required; Associate's/Bachelor's preferred.
  • OSHA-10, ESD Certification, or liquid-cooling OEM certifications preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in data center operations, rack integration, manufacturing, hardware deployment, electrical assembly, mechanical assembly, or a related technical environment.
  • Experience installing servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and rack infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, rack elevations, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with structured cabling, cable routing, labeling, and documentation practices.
  • Familiarity with liquid‑cooling technologies including CDUs, manifolds, cold plates, hoses, and coolant distribution systems preferred.
  • Experience supporting AI, HPC, GPU, or high‑density computing infrastructure preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Ability to respond promptly to issues, provide updates, and expand when necessary.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel 0%-25%.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Field Service or Data Center Technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

As a Data Center Technician, you will be responsible for supporting the assembly, integration, testing, and deployment preparation of liquid-cooled data center rack solutions designed for AI, HPC, and enterprise environments. This role performs hands‑on rack builds, hardware installation, liquid‑cooling system integration, quality inspections, testing activities, and documentation updates while following established operational, quality, and safety procedures. Working under the direction of Lead Technicians and Operations personnel, the technician supports the construction and validation of high‑density rack solutions incorporating servers, networking equipment, Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), manifolds, cold plates, and supporting cooling infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
  • Assemble data center racks according to engineering drawings, rack elevations, build documentation, and customer requirements.

  • Install servers, storage systems, network equipment, rPDUs, cable management systems, and related rack infrastructure.

  • Mount and secure equipment while adhering to established quality standards and work instructions.

  • Install and connect liquid‑cooling components including CDUs, manifolds, hoses, tubing assemblies, cold plates, and quick‑disconnect fittings.

  • Support coolant filling, flushing, air removal, leak testing, and flow verification activities following established procedures.

  • Perform rack‑level testing and validation activities to verify mechanical, electrical, and operational readiness.

  • Support rack startup, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), commissioning, and deployment readiness activities.

  • Perform quality inspections throughout the build process and document findings, test results, and corrective actions.

  • Troubleshoot assembly, cooling, cabling, and hardware installation issues and expedited concerns when necessary.

  • Verify proper routing, labeling, and installation of cabling, liquid‑cooling components, and rack hardware.

  • Apply asset tags, serial number tracking, and configuration documentation to completed assemblies.

  • Receive, inspect, stage, and organize incoming materials, rack components, and cooling system equipment.

  • Maintain inventory accuracy and material traceability through cycle counts and documentation updates.

  • Assist with packaging, shipment preparation, and deployment staging of completed rack solutions.

  • Conduct regular physical and visual inspections of equipment and data center facilities.

  • Follow all safety procedures including PPE, ESD, LOTO, and environmental requirements.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

  • Light traveling from site to site.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Working Environment:

Data Center - The data center work environment is a highly secure, physically demanding, and structured operation, characterized by its loud, controlled temperature conditions and 24/7/365 uptime. The environment demands a high attention to detail and strong problem‑solving skills to manage and troubleshoot critical equipment during regular operation and in emergency situations. Lifting up to 50 lbs, regular bending, stooping, climbing and long periods of walking / standing will be required.

Physical Expectations:
  • Work is physically strenuous, and workers are required to lift heavy packages up to 50 pounds.

  • Work may require excessive bending or stooping.

  • Employee required to walk long distances repeatedly throughout the day.

  • Employee required to climb ladders.

  • Employee required to use hand tools.
