Ascent, now part of Wesco, is seeking an IT Technician - Data Center to install, test, and maintain network infrastructure within a data center environment. You will work with fiber, coax, copper cabling, rack/patch panels, and power distribution units while adhering to quality standards.

You will perform advanced troubleshooting, circuit testing, and basic configurations; detailed records and timely escalation are expected in a fast-paced, mission-critical setting.

Qualifications

  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • Certifications preferred: Fluke CCTT Copper/ Fiber, JDSU BERT Testing, BICSI II Copper/ Fiber, FOA CFOT, CompTIA A+/Network+.
  • 2+ years in a production data center environment.
  • Strong technical skills with attention to detail and prioritization.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and read installation drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Run fiber and coax cross connects using proper termination techniques.
  • Install and test cross connects, terminate copper/fiber, and dress cables.
  • Deploy cabinet rack mount PDUs and manage patch panels.
  • Rack and stack customer equipment and test circuits.
  • Troubleshoot circuits and escalate as needed.

As the IT Technician - Data Center, you will be responsible for installing, testing, and maintaininga wide range of network and IT infrastructure within a data center environment. This includes fiber, coax, and copper cabling, as well as racking and configuring servers, switches, routers, and power distribution units. You will perform advanced troubleshooting, circuit testing, and custom installations while ensuring adherence to quality standards and customer requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Run fiber and coax cross connects and follows proper termination techniques per company established processes and procedures.
  • Perform Installs/Tests/Modifies Cross Connects and ensures proper dressing of the following: coax cross connects (repeater), fiber cross connects (Unicam termination), twisted pair copper cross connects, intra-building cross connects, 66 block/110 block terminations.
  • Deploy cabinet rack mount PDU’s. Install cable management systems to include wire managers and patch panels.
  • Rack and stack customer equipment.
  • Install and test cross connect circuits (switched, multiplexed, T1, DS3, OC3-48, Eth, GigE, 10Gig etc.).
  • Conduct carrier circuit maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot switched / multiplexed / media converted circuits; escalates to, and works with Networking Group, as needed.
  • Install circuits requiring advanced fiber terminations. Conduct carrier circuit testing.
  • Work with IT Lead or customer to troubleshoot issues. May require console to device and perform basic config (DRAC, iLO).
  • Maintain detailed written records of all work activity.
  • Escalate SRs that require additional information.
  • Determine work priorities from the ticketing queue and ensures adherence to all commit times.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Degree or Equivalent
  • One or more of the following certifications preferred: Fluke CCTT Copper, Fluke CCTT Fiber, JDSU BERT Testing, Digital Lightwave Testing. BICSI Level II Copper, BICSI Level II Fiber, FOA – CFOT, Comp-TIA A, Comp TIA Network+
  • 2+ years of related work experience with server builds in a production data center environment.
  • Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, mission-critical setting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs throughout the day
  • Ability to read installation drawings (Visio drawings/spreadsheets)
  • Knowledge of cable limitations to daily work (distance limitations, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of Unix / Windows booting process, commands, and system command language
  • Ability to troubleshoot switched / multiplexed / Media converted cross connects and intra-building cross connects
  • Experience with troubleshooting all circuits with carriers
  • Ability to work days/nights/weekends/holidays, if needed and/or required
Working Environment:

Data Center – The data center work environment is a highly secure, physically demanding, and structured operation, characterized by its loud, controlled temperature conditions and 24/7/365 uptime. The environment demands a high attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills to manage and troubleshoot critical equipment.

Physical Expectations
  • Work is physically strenuous and workers are required to lift heavy packages up to 50 pounds.
  • Work may require excessive bending or stooping.
  • Employee required to walk long distances repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Employee required to climb ladders.
  • Employee required to use hand tools.

Compensation Details: $24.00 - $31.00 Per Hour

This amount is what we reasonably believe we will pay for the position; however, offer amounts may vary based on factors such as geographic location, relevant education, experience, qualifications, skills, shift, or any collective bargaining agreements.

For eligible positions, compensation may include participation in a bonus or sales incentive plan,subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plan documents. For certain sales roles, Wesco also offers a commission structure that provides additional compensation based on sales results, as defined by the applicable commission plan.
