Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Data Center Tech is responsible for providing high‑quality service in a data center facility, taking excellent care of customers, building relationships, questioning processes, working hard, working smart, and enjoying the experience.
- Installation of telecommunications equipment and associated infrastructure per customer standards.
- Act as a customer contact; interface with customers and local supervisors to clarify project status.
- Work well within a team and demonstrate some leadership ability.
- Plan and layout installation activities to meet dates and budgeted hours; oversee other personnel when required.
- Install power, fiber, switchboard cable, and telecommunications equipment in data center and other telecom facilities; familiar with iron work, bays, equipment rack installation, blueprint and schematic reading.
- Physically place, remove, or modify non‑working equipment, including cable trays, racking, data equipment cabinets, frames, servers, switches, routers, repeaters, bridges, gateways, multiplexers, transceivers, firewalls, and fuse panels.
- Route cables that supply AC and/or DC power or transmit data, identify, label, and terminate them, and conduct tests to document performance characteristics of hardware and software.
- Resolve equipment or technical issues, review and analyze work orders, drawings, records, and manuals, and perform quality validation on in‑process and completed work.
- Interact with all members of the organization—installation, engineering, and project management—as well as perform other duties requested by the manager.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or college degree preferred.
- At least two years of experience in a similar role.
- Proficient in Microsoft programs and applications.
- Proficient in iOS and/or Android applications.
- Ability to troubleshoot cabling, hardware, and software issues and resolve problems.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Good customer service skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Physical ability to place, remove, or modify non‑working equipment.
