Job summary

Archetype Infrastructure Solutions in Maryland seeks a Data Center Splicer responsible for installation, splicing, termination, testing, and documentation of fiber optic cabling in mission-critical data centers. The role requires meticulous work, safety awareness, and the ability to work in fast-paced environments.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of fiber splicing experience, is proficient with OTDRs and fiber testing equipment, and can read construction drawings and splice diagrams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; fiber optics training preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of fiber optic splicing experience in data centers or mission-critical environments.
• Proficiency with fusion splicing equipment, OTDR testing, power meters, and fiber inspection scopes.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, splice diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards for structured cabling and fiber installations.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform fusion splicing, ribbon splicing, and termination of singlemode and multimode fiber optic cables.
• Install, route, dress, and secure fiber optic cabling per project specifications and industry standards.
• Test fiber optic systems using OTDRs, power meters, light sources, and other fiber testing equipment.
• Interpret construction drawings, splice matrices, cable schedules, and network diagrams.
• Label, document, and maintain accurate records of fiber routes, splice results, and test reports.
• Troubleshoot and repair damaged or underperforming fiber optic systems.
• Ensure cable management and installation practices meet customer and company quality standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas in active data centers.
• Follow site-specific safety protocols, security procedures, and change management processes.
• Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and other trades to ensure milestones are met.
• Inspect tools and equipment to ensure proper operation and perform routine maintenance.
• Support commissioning activities and customer acceptance testing.

Position Summary

The Data Center Splicer is responsible for the installation, splicing, termination, testing, and documentation of fiber optic cabling systems within mission‑critical data center environments. The position ensures all fiber infrastructure is installed and maintained to the highest quality standards while supporting new construction, expansions, and maintenance activities. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, safety‑conscious, and experienced in working within fast‑paced, high‑availability environments.

• Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, when project schedules require.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record preferred.
• Fiber optic certifications (CFOT, FOA, BICSI, or equivalent) are preferred but not required.
