Job summary

Archetype Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) is seeking a Data Center Splicer to install, splice, terminate, and test fiber optic systems in mission-critical data center environments. The role requires attention to detail, safety consciousness, and experience in fast-paced, high-availability settings.

The position involves reading drawings, maintaining records, and coordinating with project managers while following all site safety protocols. Travel to project sites and flexible hours may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical training in fiber optics or telecommunications preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of fiber optic splicing experience, preferably in data centers, telecoms, or mission-critical environments.
• Proficiency with fusion splicing equipment, OTDR testing, power meter testing, and fiber inspection scopes.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, splice diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and industry best practices for structured cabling and fiber installations.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform fusion splicing, ribbon splicing, and termination of single-mode and multimode fiber optic cables.
• Install, route, dress, and secure fiber optic cabling per project specs and standards.
• Test fiber optic systems using OTDRs, power meters, light sources, and other equipment.
• Interpret construction drawings, splice matrices, cable schedules, and network diagrams.
• Label, document, and maintain records of fiber routes, splice results, and test reports.
• Troubleshoot and repair damaged or underperforming fiber optic systems.
• Ensure cable management and installation practices meet quality standards.
• Follow site safety protocols and change management processes.
• Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and other trades to meet milestones.

Position Summary

The Data Center Splicer is responsible for the installation, splicing, termination, testing, and documentation of fiber optic cabling systems within mission-critical data center environments. This position ensures all fiber infrastructure is installed and maintained to the highest quality standards while supporting new construction, expansions, and maintenance activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and experienced in working within fast-paced, high-availability environments.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform fusion splicing, ribbon splicing, and termination of single-mode and multimode fiber optic cables.
• Install, route, dress, and secure fiber optic cabling in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Test fiber optic systems using OTDRs, power meters, light sources, and other fiber testing equipment.
• Interpret construction drawings, splice matrices, cable schedules, and network diagrams.
• Label, document, and maintain accurate records of fiber routes, splice results, and test reports.
• Troubleshoot and repair damaged or underperforming fiber optic systems.
• Ensure cable management and installation practices meet customer and company quality standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, especially within active data center environments.
• Follow all site-specific safety protocols, security procedures, and change management processes.
• Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and other trades to ensure project milestones are achieved.
• Inspect tools and equipment to ensure proper operation and perform routine maintenance as needed.
• Support commissioning activities and customer acceptance testing.
  

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical training in fiber optics or telecommunications preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of fiber optic splicing experience, preferably in data center, telecommunications, or mission-critical environments.
• Proficiency with fusion splicing equipment, OTDR testing, power meter testing, and fiber inspection scopes.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, splice diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and industry best practices for structured cabling and fiber installations.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced environments.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or elevated locations as required.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, when project schedules require.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record preferred.
• Fiber optic certifications (CFOT, FOA, BICSI, or equivalent) are preferred but not required.
