Job summary

Google is seeking a Server Operations Manager for its 3PDC-EFS team to lead Data Center Technicians across third-party facilities, ensuring server, storage, and network systems meet availability, SLAs, and environmental safety standards at scale.

You will oversee day-to-day operations through the lifecycle of server and network hardware, including installation, configuration, testing, maintenance, and decommissioning, with a focus on strong team development and site culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in computing infrastructure, networking, operating systems, or hardware.
  • 5 years of experience managing technical, vendor, contract management, or delivery teams.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of individuals, set and communicate priorities that support organizational goals and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Partner with teams to meet goals and stakeholders to manage facility activities and set/implement short- and long-term strategies.
  • Maintain, monitor, and execute security and operational procedures and track/analyze trends to identify opportunities for improvements.
  • Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues.
  • Support and contribute to the implementation of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and other compliance programs and initiatives.

Job description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8 years of experience in computing infrastructure, networking, operating systems, or hardware.

  • 5 years of experience managing technical, vendor, contract management, or delivery teams.

  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Experience working in data center environments, including building and operating large-scale infrastructure, and network and compute architecture and lifecycle, and Linux/Unix system administration.

  • Experience with initiating and executing strategic initiatives in a global environment.

  • Experience leading operations in a 24x7 environment.

  • Excellent strategic problem-solving skills and experience managing remote teams.

  • Track record of leading and improving Environmental Health and Safety initiatives.

  • Demonstrate the ability to implement and drive the safety culture at the site, while fostering a various and collaborative team environment.


ABOUT THE JOB:

As a Server Operations Manager on the third-party data centers (3PDC)-EFS team, you will lead a team of Data Center Technicians within third-party facilities, ensuring Google’s sophisticated server, storage, and networking systems meet strict availability goals, service level agreements, and environmental safety standards at scale.


In this role, you will oversee day-to-day operations and guide your team through the entire life-cycle of server and network hardware, including installation, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and decommissioning.


Additionally, you will take charge of complex infrastructure deployments, manage project timelines, and develop robust contingency plans. As a people manager, you will be deeply invested in your team’s professional development and career growth while modeling teamwork attributes that positively impact site culture.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.


US: $138000 - $200000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Lead a team of individuals, set and communicate individual and team priorities that support organizational goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development, and provide feedback and coaching.

  • Partner with teams to meet goals and stakeholders to manage facility activities and set/implement short-and long-term strategies.

  • Maintain, monitor, and execute security and operational procedures and track/analyze trends to identify opportunities for improvements ensuring alignment with organizational policies.

  • Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues.

  • Support and contribute to the implementation of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and other compliance programs and initiatives in collaboration with other teams to ensure environmental and safety incidents are investigated, resolved, and reported.
