Job summary

Amazon in Herndon, VA is seeking a Data Center Security Systems Engineer to design, engineer, and integrate complex security systems for AWS data centers across global deployments. You will develop technical documentation, define equipment specifications, and create operational frameworks that enable deployment and support.

Travel about 25% is expected to support cross-regional initiatives and deployments. The role requires coordinating with internal teams, external vendors, and field operations

Qualifications

• 4+ years of engineering experience in mission critical facilities such as data centers.
• 4+ years of commissioning experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer physical security systems for AWS data centers, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and related technologies.
• Develop technical specifications, product requirements, and build plans for security system implementations.
• Evaluate and recommend solutions that balance security effectiveness, cost, scalability, and operational complexity.
• Drive complex system integration projects across internal teams and external partners.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally across AWS organizations to integrate security requirements into designs and standards.
• Contribute to the standardization of security system designs across the global data center portfolio.
• Develop automation solutions that improve the efficiency and reliability of security system deployment, configuration, and management.
• Create technical documentation, SOPs, runbooks, and training materials that enable field operations teams to support products throughout the full lifecycle.
• Ensure compliance with internal security standards, policies, and organizational requirements.
• Domestic and international travel approximately 25% of the time.
