Job Summary
This position is within the Americas Operations Project and Program Management team, which delivers diverse projects each year to support the IBX Operations organization. The Project & Program Manager role is crucial for executing engineering-related projects and must demonstrate:
- Proven experience in engineering: Minimum of 5 years in an engineering role, with a solid understanding of engineering principles and practices.
- Project management experience: Ability to lead and manage engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Technical expertise: Familiarity with precision cooling systems, UPS, electrical distribution systems, and building monitoring systems to communicate effectively with engineering teams and stakeholders.
- Critical thinking skills: Strong analytical skills to identify challenges and develop innovative solutions within engineering projects.
Responsibilities
Project/Program Delivery
- Lead medium to large-scale engineering projects.
- Manage all aspects of the project cycle — initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closure.
- Provide guidance and leadership to ensure capacity and engineering projects meet or exceed company expectations.
- Establish a cadence for project review meetings and communications to ensure transparency and alignment across functions, while being pragmatic about volume, frequency, and content.
Planning
- Apply various approaches to planning and gathering information to develop, facilitate, or lead complex business cases, plans, and schedules (e.g., ROI).
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive project schedule, including milestones, tasks, and dependencies.
- Track and monitor project progress, identifying deviations or delays and taking proactive measures.
- Identify risks, bottlenecks, or conflicts and propose mitigation strategies.
Stakeholder Management
- Work with multiple stakeholders, including external vendors and government bodies, holding them accountable for commitments.
- Understand stakeholder needs and build effective relationships.
- Demonstrate influencing skills to achieve solutions and handle challenging situations.
- Identify conflicts and negotiate solutions, keeping project goals in mind.
Communication
- Use various communication methods to update stakeholders and manage expectations.
- Be familiar with standardized tools and templates, providing feedback for management standards.
- Assist in process development and documentation as needed.
Risk Management
- Manage risks at project and strategic levels.
- Apply lateral thinking and analyze information to solve problems and resolve issues with teams.
- Use defined project management frameworks, tools, and templates to monitor and control projects.
- Mentor team members in project management practices.
Resource Management
- Address resource and budget issues with internal teams and external suppliers, resolving disputes independently.
- Monitor project expenses and resource utilization, ensuring adherence to budgets and identifying risks.
- Coordinate with team members for accurate cost and expense recording, maintaining up-to-date records.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
- Proven engineering project management experience.
- Experience in critical facilities or data centers.
- Proficiency in Smartsheet or similar planning tools and MS Office Suite.
- Organized, detail-oriented, with strong time management skills; ability to prioritize and work independently.
- Project Management certification is a plus.
- Bi-lingual Spanish/English skills are a plus.
