Job summary

Lightedge Solutions is seeking a Data Center Operations Tier II Technician to manage and maintain data center infrastructure, including power, cooling, security, and fire suppression. You will work with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to meet high availability standards and participate in on-call rotations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two-year technical degree or 5-8 years equivalent technical experience.
  • Install hardware and cabling necessary for IT services.
  • Proficient with Ethernet, CAT6, and Fiber cabling.
  • Experience with daily data center maintenance and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with telco equipment is helpful.
  • Strong problem solving, on-site troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation.
  • Subject matter expertise in one or more critical systems (Security, CMDB, Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, BMS, or Environmental).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate maintenance with vendors for core data center infrastructure (UPS, generators, electrical, cooling, fire suppression).
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot data center equipment with staff and vendors.
  • Install servers and network devices into racks with cabling.
  • Facilitate new client service installations with project managers.
  • Receive and document incoming shipments.
  • Lead data center tours and provide facility tours.
  • Design rack/cage layouts with cabling and power connectivity.
  • Respond to alarms affecting infrastructure and services.
  • Follow Change Control processes and maintain MOP activities.
  • Maintain uptime for 24x7 facilities and mentor team members.

Job description

The Data Center Operations Tier II Technician with Lightedge Solutions will manage and maintain all aspects of our data centers and other critical facilities. They will utilize and create standard operating procedures to perform and/or coordinate the routine maintenance and optimization of all building systems, including power, HVAC, biometric security, and fire suppression systems. This will include working directly with other technicians, support staff, senior management, vendors, and contractors to consistently meet the highest industry standards for availability, security, and efficiency. The employee will be a member of the DC Operations team and will report directly to the Facilities Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate maintenance work with vendors for core data center infrastructure, including UPSs, generators, electrical, cooling, and fire suppression systems.
  • Work with other Lightedge personnel, contractors, and vendors to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with data center equipment.
  • Install servers and network devices into racks with associated network cabling.
  • Work with project managers and technicians to facilitate new client service installations.
  • Receive and document incoming shipments.
  • Facilitate and lead data center tours.
  • Coordinate the design and layout of new rack and cage environments with supporting cabling infrastructure and power connectivity.
  • Possess and maintain comprehensive knowledge of Lightedge physical infrastructure and building systems, including mission-critical power, cooling, and biometric security systems.
  • Respond to and resolve alarm events affecting infrastructure and services.
  • Follow established Change Control processes; create, review, and follow MOP change activities.
  • Ensure operational efficiencies and best practices toward maintaining availability/ uptime of all 24X7 facilities, mission-critical operations, and infrastructure.
  • Share and mentor technical knowledge and operational experience with team members to enhance professional growth and practical cross-training of the DC Ops and Support teams.
  • Available for on-call rotation to support non-business hours, overseeing preventative maintenance and break/fix activity by vendors, performing routine maintenance, optimizing infrastructure, and providing client support.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum of two-year technical degree, or 5-8 years equivalent experience in a technical environment or military MOS
  • Responsible for installing hardware and cabling necessary for installing new IT services.
  • Must be proficient in all wiring types and requirements, such as Ethernet, Phone, CAT6, and Fiber (SM & MM)
  • Experience with day-to-day standard maintenance activities in data centers
  • Familiarity with telco central office equipment.
  • Robust computer user hardware and software skillset, high proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and utilization of web browsers. This position requires that you be capable of consoling into equipment (various vendors: Cisco, Fortinet, Brocade, etc.) and providing essential troubleshooting assistance on-site where necessary. The equipment list includes but is not limited to, Servers, Blade Chassis, Routers, Switches, and Firewalls.
  • Experience monitoring and operating complex electrical systems, including generators, transfer switches, PDUs, Breaker panels, and UPSs.
  • Knowledge of data center cooling systems and airflow management techniques
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize activities in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze or define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Demonstrated a comprehensive ability to document policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with building and computerized management systems is desired to support and augment building monitoring systems. This is not a requirement but is a skillset preferred for this position.
  • Specialize as a subject matter expert on one or more of the following areas or systems – Security/biometrics, CMDB, Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Building Management Systems, or Environmental Systems.
