Job summary

Sharp Brains is seeking a Data Center Network Technician L2 for freelance, on-demand work at data centers across Ohio. You will support remote network engineers with fiber patching, display hands-on problem solving for Layer 1/2 issues, and manage physical infrastructure including cabling and patch panels.

You should have 2+ years in data centers, experience with Ethernet, VLANs, MPO/MTP, and be comfortable coordinating with remote teams.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in data center environments.
• 2+ years of network/IT infra experience, preferably in data centers.
• Strong understanding of Ethernet, Switching, VLANs, and link status.
• Practical fiber optics, fiber patching and structured cabling knowledge.
• Experience with MPO/MTP troubleshooting and VFL readings.
• Layer 1/Layer 2 troubleshooting ability and good communication.
• Ability to work onsite independently while coordinating with remote teams.

Responsibilities

• Assist remote engineers with fiber patching and connectivity issues.
• Troubleshoot fiber optics, switches, racks, patch panels, and cabling.
• Perform fiber cleaning and MPO/MTP troubleshooting.
• Read and interpret VFL readings and troubleshoot Layer 1/2 issues.
• Document steps, findings, and provide timely status updates.
• Coordinate with remote teams to resolve onsite problems efficiently.
