Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a full-time Night Shift Maintenance Technician to operate a 24/7 data center chiller plant at 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY. You will diagnose equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and coordinate with contractors to ensure uninterrupted service for University data systems.

Qualifications include a high school diploma with 3–4 years of chilled water plant experience and preferred air conditioning/refrigeration certification, plus NYS licenses.

Qualifications

• High school diploma plus 3-4 years experience operating a chilled water plant with a minimum of 300 Ton capacity.
• Degree or certification in air conditioning and refrigeration preferred.
• NYS Pesticide License category 7G required within first year of employment.
• Valid NYS motor vehicle license required.

Responsibilities

• Independently diagnoses operating equipment; logs data to ensure parameters are met.
• Monitors chiller plant, electrical switchgear, and emergency generator rooms; maintains DDCS systems.
• Troubleshoots and repairs chiller plant and related equipment: chillers, pumps, motors, generators, boilers, HVAC units.
• Performs preventive maintenance and uses blueprints, sketches, and wiring diagrams for diagnostics and installations.
• Performs chemical treatment to maintain water chemistry per NYS 7G guidelines.
• Documents daily work in CMMS; maintains log for turnover and events.
• Assists contractors and coordinates spare parts; maintains inventory.
• Responds to service requests and emergencies to protect data center operations.
