Job summary

Applied Digital seeks a highly skilled Data Center Mechanical Engineer – Operational SME to oversee and optimize mechanical infrastructure performance, reliability, and efficiency. The role focuses on chiller systems, evaporative cooling, CDU cooling, water distribution and treatment, emergency diesel generators, and fire suppression, with knowledge of building automation and electrical distribution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of data center mechanical engineering, facility operations, or mission-critical environments.
• Ability to interpret blueprints/CAD drawings.
• Extensive experience with mechanical plans, specs, and equipment shop drawings.
• Knowledge of refrigeration cycles and trend charts.
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical system failures in real-time operations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an onsite technical resource for mechanical infrastructure with emphasis on field operation.
• Coordinate cross-functional collaboration between local facility and global teams.
• Contribute to the mechanical safety program for the site.
• Collaborate with design, construction, and operations to improve electrical system resiliency.
• Develop and maintain site Mechanical procedures (EOPs, SOPs, MOPs, drills) consistent with client standards.
• Plan and approve work procedures for mechanical troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance, assessing risks.
• Oversee mechanical system configurations and upgrades to ensure integrity and compliance with best practices.
• Provide QA/QC oversight of construction projects and maintenance activities.
• Lead or participate in root-cause analysis in area of expertise.
• Provide training on mechanical equipment and life safety/industrial water systems to engineers and cross-functional teams.
• Manage vendor relationships for mechanical maintenance and retrofit work.
• Offer feedback on global maintenance strategies and electrical system design improvements.
