Job summary

The Planet Group is seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Subject Matter Expert to support a massive data center construction project in the Waco, TX area.

This contractor will serve as the on-site mechanical expert responsible for providing technical oversight, reviewing design and installation quality, supporting commissioning activities, and ensuring mechanical systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project requirement This role requires ownership, urgency, and

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years in mechanical construction, engineering, commissioning, or field leadership on large projects.
• Strong knowledge of data center mechanical systems: chilled water, AHUs, piping, pumps, and controls.
• Experience with complex mission-critical construction projects and field coordination.
• Ability to read drawings, specs, P&IDs, and commissioning docs.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specs, submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and field changes for conformance.
• Identify technical issues, resolve field conflicts, and keep work progressing safely.
• Perform field walks to verify installations align with drawings, specs, and codes.
• Coordinate with GC, mechanical contractors, design engineers, commissioning agents, and clients.
• Support commissioning and start-up activities, including checks and turnover docs.
