Job summary

Google Seattle is seeking a Data Center Engineer in Electrical Engineering to help design and optimize data center systems, with a focus on reliability and efficiency. The team develops cutting-edge power and cooling solutions to support Google’s global infrastructure.

The role requires PE/licensing considerations, 1 year in mission critical environments, and a strong foundation in medium voltage systems; preferred advanced degrees may be advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 1 year of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
  • 1 year of experience with medium voltage systems.
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant fields or a Professional Engineering (PE) license.

Responsibilities

  • Define data center system-level, product architecture, and Research and Development, while helping to develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
  • Conduct engineering analysis and research designs and methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure designs and installations meet requirements (e.g., predicted cooling, structural, operational concerns, etc.).

  • Maternity Leave (Short-Term Disability + Baby Bonding): 28-30 weeks
  • Baby Bonding Leave: 18 weeks
  • Holidays: 13 paid days per year

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant fields or a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience in estimating, electrical design, operation, and commissioning of substations, switchgear, ATP/ATS, emergency power systems and their control systems, power monitoring, and electrical protection.
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of high voltage substations, medium or low voltage electrical distribution systems, AC/DC systems, and associated power management or SCADA tools.
  • Experience working with data center equipment and environments (e.g., switchgear, generators, transformers, controls, security monitoring systems, fire safety systems).
