Job summary

Google in the United States is seeking a seasoned Data Center Engineer to advance the electrical design of our hyperscale facilities. You will drive power distribution strategies, collaborate with facilities technicians, and push for reliability and efficiency across complex data center systems.

The role requires a bachelor’s in electrical engineering and at least five years of experience in mission-critical environments, with experience in design, construction, and commissioning of utility

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required for position in electrical engineering or related technical field; equivalent practical experience considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of utility electrical distribution systems in mission critical facility environments.
  • Experience in electrical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Define data center system-level, product architecture, and R&D; develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
  • Conduct engineering analysis and research designs and methods for data center equipment and facilities; manage change control.
  • Ensure designs and installations meet cooling, structural, operational requirements.
  • Provide technical support to data center services and operations teams to define electrical system design requirements for multiple projects from inception through completion.
  • Own and manage all site-level electrical system issues during project execution; coordinate with cross-functional teams.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field.
Professional engineering license (PE)

Minimum qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of utility electrical distribution systems in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
  • Experience in electrical infrastructure.
Preferred qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field.
  • Professional engineering license or a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of high voltage substations, medium or low voltage electrical distribution systems, alternating current (AC)/direct current (DC) systems, and associated power management or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) tools.
  • Experience working with data center equipment and environments (e.g., switchgear, generators, transformers, controls, security monitoring systems, fire safety systems), with an understanding of start up/commissioning processes.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $144000 - $208000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

  • Define data center system-level, product architecture, and Research and Development, while helping to develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
  • Conduct engineering analysis and research designs and methods of data center equipment and facilities. Manage and comply with the change control process.
  • Ensure designs and installations meet requirements (e.g., predicted cooling, structural, operational concerns, etc.).
  • Provide technical support to data center services and operations teams to define electrical system design requirements for multiple and simultaneous data center projects from inception through completion.
  • Own and manage all site level electrical system issues during the project execution phase. Identify and resolve issues with the cross functional teams. Maintain all data center related electrical system design requirements and interface documents.
