JOB DESCRIPTION
The Rack Deployment Lead Data Center Engineer will own building- and campus-level rack deployment execution for large-scale data center projects, driving day-to-day readiness, schedule coordination, installation execution, energization preparation, issue resolution, KPI reporting, and handoff activities. This person will operate as the main execution lead across rack deployment workstreams, coordinating with construction, commissioning, facilities operations, engineering, network, compute, logistics, security, vendors, and installation teams to keep deployments aligned to milestone dates and capacity commitments. Relocation assistance will be provided for selected out-of-market individuals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead rack deployment planning and execution from readiness through installation, validation, energization preparation, and turnover.
- Own building-level schedules, milestone tracking, action registers, blocker logs, risk escalation, and deployment status reporting.
- Validate rack deployment prerequisites, including space readiness, access, cabinet layouts, pathway readiness, materials, tooling, safety requirements, network readiness, and site support needs.
- Coordinate across construction, data center facilities operations, engineering, commissioning, network, compute, logistics, security, vendors, and field teams to remove blockers and maintain deployment velocity.
- Track KPIs such as schedule adherence, deployment velocity, installation quality, first-pass success, rework trends, blocker aging, access readiness, and handoff readiness.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 4+ years of experience in rack deployment, data center deployment, technical field installation, infrastructure delivery, construction coordination, critical facilities operations, logistics execution, or similarly complex technical environments.
- Understanding of liquid-cooled or air-cooled server rack environments. Specifically related to heat removal process, system installation, and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of data center deployment dependencies, including construction completion, power and cooling readiness, commissioning milestones, access controls, security requirements, materials readiness, logistics, network deployment, and operational handoff.
- Knowledge of operations and maintenance procedures for electrical and mechanical components within a data hall - including UPS systems, PDU, switchgear, CRAC and CRAH units, pumps, valves, cooling towers, etc.
- Understanding of LOTO (lock out tag out) and LDL (live/dead-live) as it relates to instrumentation testing and maintenance.
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience with hyperscale data centers, cloud infrastructure, colocation campuses, telecom environments, high-density compute deployments, or high-availability infrastructure programs.
- Familiarity with Smartsheet, Primavera, MS Project, Jira, ServiceNow, CMMS, DCIM, asset management systems, inventory systems, or dashboarding tools.
