Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of directly related experience operating, installing, and maintaining data center critical equipment and building systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and control systems.
  • Wamiliarity with data center infrastructure components such as generators, switchgear, UPS, PDU, CRAC, and building automation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Perform planned and ad-hoc preventive maintenance with multiple trades involved.
  • Inspect building systems (HVAC, electrical distribution) and maintain clean, safe equipment rooms.
  • Respond to indoor emergencies and air quality concerns.
  • Create, track, and close work requests (WR) and ensure timely completion.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and carriers for cabling and installations.
  • Support data center services and customer/ vendor interactions as needed.

Job Description:

The Critical Facilities Technician is responsible, as part of a team, for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The Critical Facilities Technician primarily interacts with team leads, clients, and vendors. Data center equipment that supports mission‑critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, emergency diesel generators, electrical switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems, and a basic understanding of this equipment would be preferred.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Complete planned and ad-hoc preventive maintenance work assignments require the skill and direction of several engineering, mechanical, and maintenance trades.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of building systems, i.e., HVAC, electrical distribution, maintain mechanical equipment rooms to ensure clean and safe conditions.
  • Rapid response, investigation, and management of indoor emergency situations and air quality complaints
  • Have a complete working knowledge of creating, closing, and tracking "work requests" (WR). Initiate or respond to work orders, follow-up and verify completion of work.
  • Monitor performance/note deficiencies of service contractors and recommend changes as necessary Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Supports the delivery of data center services including colocation, telecommunications services, and deployment of additional services to customers and internal business systems.
  • Acts as an operational contact for data center customers, vendors, and carriers as it relates to colocation, connectivity, and network products and services.
  • Carries out tasks under the direction of the Network/Engineering Infrastructure Manager and IT Manager necessary to support internal networks, IT infrastructure, computers, electronics, and telephone systems.
  • Conducts activities inside IT and telecommunications rooms or cabinets such as the installation of IT and network hardware, making or running patch cables, and verifying or testing cable paths.
  • Coordinates and oversees access to and work within the facility with third‑party contractors, vendors, and carriers related to structured cabling installation, circuit delivery and equipment installations in IT and telecommunications rooms and customer space.
  • Supports offsite points-of‑presence at remote locations and aids in operations, administration, and maintenance of infrastructure, network equipment, and tasks related to the delivery and support of network services.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in the operation, installation, and maintenance of data center critical equipment, building systems with in‑depth technical understanding and knowledge of all HVAC, electrical, plumbing fire/life safety, and control systems.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two+ years’ experience in electrical systems, refrigeration and/or HVAC. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, Chillers, Air handling units, and CRAC units.
  • Good observation skills and problem‑solving ability.
Physical Requirements:
  • Climbing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting light weights (up to 50 lbs), grasping, and repetitive motion
  • Work involves occasional overtime, or instances where you are required to stay overnight at the workplace to fulfill job responsibilities under supervision

  • Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly
  • Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
  • Good hand‑eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors
  • Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses
  • Ability to differentiate between color‑coded warning signs, labels, and cables
  • Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility
Work Conditions:
  • Must pass background check and drug screening
  • Must adhere to all site‑specific safety and security protocols
  • Will be required to wear PPE (steel‑toe boots, vest, hard hat, gloves, etc.) as needed

Site Location: We operate a 24‑hour facility where work hours (shifts) are assigned as needed to ensure job functions are performed satisfactorily, compliance is maintained, and the company operates efficiently. Certain positions, as specified in your offer letter, may require working irregular hours, such as nights, weekends, overtime, alternating shifts, and under various conditions, including outdoor work during extreme weather or in hazardous environments.

Compensation & Benefits Disclosure

The hourly rate for this role is $49.00 to $53.00 per hour. This range reflects a good‑faith estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay upon hire, based on factors such as skills, experience, education, and market/location.
