Job summary

Goodman is seeking an Electrical Engineer to partner with the development team and drive electrical services design across data center projects in the US. You will provide technical direction, coordinate internal and external resources, and ensure delivery aligns with budget and schedule.

You will review submittals, lead electrical design through construction documentation, and support optimization of performance and energy efficiency within the portfolio.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of electrical or building services design and construction experience in data center builds.
• Strong project management experience including RFQ/RFP processes and coordinating multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Support development team with preparation of RFPs, RFIs, and other technical requests from customer engineering teams.
• Review and instruct on RFIs, submittals, and related design disciplines to maintain project quality.
• Lead electrical services design from concept through construction documentation and ensure alignment with budget and schedule.
• Perform design reviews of contractor submissions to identify risks and non-conformances.
• Evaluate equipment and components to inform technically robust solutions for customer requirements.
• Design and maintain electrical systems supporting data center facilities in collaboration with the team.
• Provide technical input during delivery design phase to meet performance requirements.
• Post-delivery reviews to identify optimization opportunities for operation and energy efficiency.
• Mentor project team members and assist with DD activities related to electrical scope.

Job description

The Electrical Engineer will partner with the development team and play a key role in supporting design by providing technical solutions on electrical services across assigned data center projects.

The role will provide technical direction and operational advice, decision-making and overall leadership for data center technical specification and delivery across the Goodman portfolio in the US and is responsible for managing internal and external resources in the delivery of the data center technical specifications.

The Electrical Engineer will also support the Projects team in the management and reporting of projects to ensure they are delivered to Goodman’s quality, approved budget and time frame requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development team in assisting with preparation of RFP, RFI’s and Other technical requests made by customer engineering teams
• Accountable for reviewing the related disciplines in the design process, providing instruction to RFIs and review/approve technical submittals
• Design delivery lead of electrical services by coordinating from concept design through to construction documentation
• Create detailed design reviews of the general contractor lead submission of the electrical and building services to identify project risk and non-conformances.
• Research, evaluate, and inform electrical equipment and other typology equipment/component selection to inform technical solution for respective customer requirements
• Design, implement, and maintain the electrical systems that support data center facilities, in conjunction with the development team
• Provide technical support and input through delivery design phase to ensure performance requirements of electrical equipment meets project requirements
• Post delivery, undertake reviews of electrical and plumbing performance to identify opportunities for optimization in operation, improvements in design and energy efficiency for future implementation
• Provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and leadership for data center designs and critical infrastructure systems
• Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to procure high-quality equipment that meets technical specifications, performance requirements, and budgetary constraints
• Manage external consultants and contractors in developing electrical services design submissions from concept through to construction
• Use technical knowledge in ensuring the successful delivery of projects within budget, scope, and timeline
• Establish and strengthen relationships and understanding of preferred vendor solutions to ensure efficient, cost effective and effective design solutions for Customer technical requirements and integration
• Support Project Management resources in managing the preparation of project documentation
• Scope, tender and engage consultancy services required for each project
• Manage the project’s design requirements including peer reviews, presentations, internal stakeholder review and coordination
• Manage all authorities including coordination, design and approvals in line with project requirements
• Build and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Provide feedback on project, contractor and consultant performance to General Manager, Data Center Development and raise issues as required including potential risks
• Contribute to the development and evolution of a Goodman ‘Basis of Design’ as trends and technology evolves
• Contribute to the feasibility phase by undertaking due diligence activities to validate technical solutions in site selection
• Develop relationships with customers throughout the delivery process
• Delivery within timeframes and cost projections
• Mentor team members including Project Managers and Administrators
• Assist team in DD matters that are electrical in nature.
• Assist with ongoing key project learning including staff training and lessons learned sessions

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years’ electrical or building services design and construction experience in data center builds
• Preferred licensed electrical contractor (passed state of CA Test) or equivalent
• Experience with designing and or deciphering electrical protection and grading studies
• Strong project management or project lead experience including RFQ/RFP process, selecting engineering teams, developing budgets, coordinating multiple consultant teams and facilitating meetings
• High degree of proficiency in Data Center BOD Design, and some knowledge of industrial/commercial architecture.
• Experience being involved in electrical subcontractor relationships
• Detailed knowledge of electrical infrastructure and construction and estimating
• Experience managing cross functional and/ or cross team projects
• Strong contractual background with excellent negotiation skills and the ability to achieve desirable outcomes
• Relevant qualifications in project management, engineering or other relevant discipline
• Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in commercial and industrial architecture and engineering, with a primary focus on data centers
• Demonstrate understanding of hyperscale and co-location data center operators basis of design and technical requirements
• Understanding data center facility design and construction requirements
• Strong understanding of project management and construction methodologies
• Detailed knowledge of infrastructure and construction, and cost pricing
• Understanding cost reports process
