Job summary

PlanIT Group is seeking an Infrastructure Technician II to build, maintain, and optimize structured cabling systems powering data centers. You will install, test, splice, service, and decommission fiber and copper cabling, cabinets, racks, trays, and pathways.

This hands-on role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and teamwork. You will read project drawings, follow manufacturer guidelines, mentor junior technicians, and adapt to fast-paced, onsite environments with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of telecom/structured cabling experience (data center experience a strong plus).
• OSHA10 preferred (must obtain within 90 days).
• First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days.
• FOA certifications, BICSI cabling certifications, or similar credentials preferred.
• Proficient experience installing, terminating, and testing fiber (single-mode/multi-mode connections).
• Proficiency with various testers - Fluke, OTDR, and VFL.
• Highly preferred - experience splicing fiber.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, splice, service, and decommission structured cabling systems including fiber optics, copper, communications, and other low voltage systems.
• Build and remove cabinets, racks, cable trays, pathways, and related data center infrastructure.
• Perform physical installations and removals with precision, safety, and attention to detail.
• Read and follow project drawings, specifications, and manufacturer guidelines.
• Apply broad understanding of structured cabling installation, routing, labeling, and commissioning.
• Ensure installations meet design intent, customer requirements, and industry standards.
• Work as a proactive member of the team, supporting less experienced technicians and sharing knowledge.
• Help plan materials, tools, and tasks to keep projects moving smoothly.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors, teammates, and customer representatives.
