Job summary

Eli Lilly and Company is seeking Data Architects to design and build data infrastructure that enables AI-native drug discovery. You will create schemas, ontologies, data models, knowledge graphs, and platform architectures for machine-actionable, FAIR data assets.

You will work across data modeling, lakehouse architecture, and knowledge graph areas, partnering with Data Foundry and Methods4Insight teams to scale data solutions and support analytical models and AI agents.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Information Science, or related STEM field.
• 6+ years of data architecture, data engineering, or scientific informatics experience (MS); 2+ years (PhD).
• Deep expertise in at least one focus area: relational databases, data modeling/ontology engineering, data platform/lakehouse architecture, or knowledge graph systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement data models, schemas, and ontologies for chemical, biological, and automation-generated data.
• Design data lakehouse architecture using Databricks or Snowflake; build ETL/ELT pipelines with Spark/dbt.
• Create knowledge graphs to capture molecular, target, and experimental relationships.
• Collaborate with engineering and scientific teams to ensure scalable, production-ready architectures.
• Evaluate build-vs-buy options and ensure data architectures comply with enterprise standards.
