Data and Impact Analyst

Professional Dedham, MA, US

3 days ago Requisition ID: 1128

Salary Range: $68,000.00 To $90,000.00 Annually

About HopeWell

HopeWell is the largest nonprofit provider of comprehensive foster care in Massachusetts. For over six decades, we've enriched the lives of children, adults, and families in need of love, support, and safe places to grow and thrive — serving more than 1,500 individuals and families each year across the Commonwealth.

About This Role

HopeWell seeks a Data & Impact Analyst to help advance our mission of enriching the lives and expanding the opportunities of individuals and families in need of love, support, and safe places to grow and thrive. As HopeWell continues to strengthen its learning culture and invest in data‑informed approaches, the analyst will play a key role in ensuring that staff have timely, accurate, and meaningful information to understand what’s working and drive continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Data & Impact, the analyst is responsible for the day‑to‑day management, analysis, and visualization of program data to support learning and continuous improvement across the organization. This includes preparing and analyzing data, administering surveys, developing Power BI dashboards, and collaborating directly with program teams to translate data into actionable insights.

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a curious, detail-oriented analyst who's excited to turn data into stories that drive better outcomes for children and families. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between hands‑on data work — cleaning datasets, building dashboards, running analyses — and clear communication with non-technical program staff who rely on that data every day.

The Impact You'll Create

Reporting to the Senior Director of Data &Impact, you'll ensure staff have timely, accurate, and meaningful information to guide decisions and foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement. Your work spans five core areas:

Data Management & Quality Monitoring

  • Maintain clean, well-structured datasets for analysis and reporting.
  • Monitor data quality for all data collected by the Data & Impact team; identify missing or inconsistent data and collaborate with program staff to resolve issues.
  • Extract and prepare data from Dynamics, SharePoint, and other sources for analysis and dashboarding.
  • Document data definitions, data flows, and analytic processes to support transparency and reproducibility.

Survey Administration & Data Collection

  • Build, deploy, and manage surveys (e.g., in Qualtrics, Microsoft Forms, or similar tools) to support program learning and evaluation.
  • Support survey design, including question wording, response options, and alignment to measurement frameworks.
  • Develop, refine, and support implementation of non‑survey data collection tools, including observational instruments, structured checklists, fidelity measures, and other program‑specific data collection protocols.
  • Ingest, clean, and integrate third‑party or partner‑provided datasets into HopeWell’s analytic environment.
  • Monitor response rates and data completeness across all data collection methods; troubleshoot issues and ensure high‑quality data collection.
  • Collaborate with program teams to ensure tools are practical, aligned with program goals, and produce actionable, high‑quality data.
  • Document data collection procedures and support staff in consistent implementation.

Data Analysis & Evaluation Support

  • Conduct descriptive, inferential, and predictive analyses under the supervision of the Senior Director.
  • Produce analytic outputs including tables, charts, statistical summaries, and cleaned datasets.
  • Draft initial insights and interpretations for review, contributing to evaluation reports, learning briefs, and presentations.
  • Support the development of logic models, measurement frameworks, and evaluation plans by providing data and analytic input.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance Power BI dashboards that support program learning and decision‑making.
  • Develop data models, apply DAX functions, and design user‑friendly visualizations aligned with best practices.
  • Manage scheduled refreshes and ensure dashboards remain accurate and up‑to‑date.
  • Gather dashboard requirements directly from program teams and translate them into effective visual tools.
  • Serve as the primary owner of all dashboards produced by the Data & Impact team.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Meet regularly with program teams to understand their data needs and learning priorities.
  • Present findings and dashboards in clear, accessible ways tailored to non‑technical audiences.
  • Provide light training and support to staff on how to interpret dashboards and use data effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Director to align analytic work with organizational learning goals.

The Expertise We Can't Do Without

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as data analytics, social sciences, public policy, education, psychology, or statistics
  • 1–3 years of experience in data analysis, program evaluation, or applied research
  • Proficiency in Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, and dashboard development
  • Strong Excel skills, including data cleaning and use of pivot tables and lookup functions
  • Experience administering surveys and preparing survey data for analysis
  • Experience conducting descriptive and inferential analyses, with familiarity with predictive modeling
  • Proficiency with SPSS or another statistical analysis tool used for quantitative evaluation
  • Ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights for non‑technical audiences
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Commitment to HopeWell’s mission and to data‑informed practice in a nonprofit setting

Additional Skills That Set You Apart

  • Experience supporting program evaluation or continuous quality improvement in human services or nonprofit settings
  • Familiarity with child welfare, foster care, education, or related human services fields
  • Ability to design or refine data collection tools such as observational instruments or fidelity checklists
  • Familiarity with user‑centered design principles for dashboards or data tools
  • Curiosity, creativity, and a learning mindset that supports innovation in measurement and evaluation
  • Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills
  • A high level of professionalism in work and interpersonal interactions with both internal and external contacts, presents to others as organized, informed, reliable, dependable and approachable
  • Able to work independently as well as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations

This opportunity may be split between office based and up to 50% remote‑based work. The role may also be structured as a 4‑day work week, if preferred. Community‑based work will be expected when in person meetings, trainings, presentations or the like are deemed valuable for staff.

  • Daily access to an automobile is preferred
  • A valid MA State Driver’s License
  • Clearing of background checks as required by state and federal law
