Job summary

Job Summary

As the Data Analytics Student Worker within the Data Practices and Analytics division, you will help ensure good communication exists for the Minnesota Department of Education's (MDE) data.

Duties will include:

  • Provide recommendations and help standardize data documentation, including data dictionaries;
  • Gather necessary information to update and create data dictionaries for MDE, the Statewide Longitudinal Education Data System (SLEDS) and the Early Childhood Longitudinal Data System (ECLDS);
  • Help create queries and data reporting processes that are replicable that lead to better sustainability of MDE’s data support.
  • Complete alignment with the Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) for major MDE data collections and data from other agencies included in SLEDS and ECLDS.

This position is eligible for hybrid telework. Employees living within 50 miles of the office location listed above will be required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month. Employees may reside outside the state of Minnesota if they live in a state bordering Minnesota and are within 50 miles of the primary work location. Existing employees who were approved to telework from a bordering state and more than 50 miles from their work location before June 1, 2025, may retain this arrangement unless they move farther away.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a post-secondary program in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, business administration, education, or a related field that involves quantitative methods.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Powerpoint, etc).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using statistical programs or programming languages (e.g., python, SQL, SAS, R, SPSS, etc).
  • Experience creating documentation for others to use.
  • Experience communicating and sharing results to others.
  • Experience summarizing research articles and reports.
  • Familiarity with education, health, social programs, or work force data.
  • Experience with data visualizations programs (e.g., Tableau).
Additional Requirements

To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Para Professional Senior you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate educational program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absence cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Education Verification form prior to appointment.
