Job summary

Brigham Young University (BYU) is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst for its Continuing Education division. You will extract, transform, and visualize data across platforms, build reports, and partner with stakeholders to deliver data-driven solutions.

You will train users, gather feedback, and refine tools to support program insights and decision-making in a collaborative, education-focused environment.

Qualifications

Business Intelligence Analyst

The Business Intelligence Analyst develops and maintains business intelligence solutions for BYU Continuing Education. This position extracts and transforms data from multiple platforms, builds and maintains reports, and uses modern data technologies and visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI. The analyst partners with stakeholders to understand their needs, delivers effective solutions, trains users, gathers feedback, and refines analytical tools that support business goals and data-driven decision-making.

What you’ll do in this position:

1. Manage the data analytics and visualization toolset Design, organize, maintain, and improve analytics and visualization tools, reports, and data connections, including updates related to schema changes and platform migrations. Ensure report accuracy, data governance compliance, appropriate access controls, and row-level security. Create tutorials and walkthroughs, monitor tool quality and usage, and support stakeholders in effectively using business intelligence solutions.

2. Supervise student employees Hire, train, and supervise student employees. Develop and maintain technical documentation.

3. Consult with CE directors, product and program managers, and BYU Online faculty Consult with stakeholders to identify analytics requirements, key performance indicators, and reporting priorities. Monitor business intelligence trends, collaborate with BYU and Continuing Education IT to integrate data, and collect feedback on tool effectiveness and usage.

4. Present data to CE directors, product and program managers, and BYU Online faculty Present data and insights to BYU Online faculty and instructional designers and train stakeholders to use business intelligence solutions. Identify opportunities for new solutions, reduce reporting challenges, improve program insights, promote data literacy, and support data-driven decision-making.

5. Assist with other departments processes as needed Conduct surveys and evaluations, support accreditation preparation, and coordinate course assessment initiatives and reports. Develop foundational knowledge of Business Process Support functions and assist with flowcharts, process diagrams, and user journey maps.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• Experience using Tableau, Power BI, or other industry-standard business intelligence tools.
• Ability to write complex level-of-detail expressions to accurately report data from sources with varying levels of aggregation.
• Ability to solve problems collaboratively and build strong relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to electronically handle data and maintain data confidentiality.
• Demonstrated writing skills, including graphical reporting elements.
• Outstanding communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships.
• Ability to work in an iterative and incremental development environment.
• Ability to identify and clarify business needs and translate them into business intelligence solutions.
• Ability to design business intelligence tools that are easy to understand and use, regardless of a user's technical background and experience.
• Ability to translate multiple data elements into understandable visuals that quickly tell a story.

Preferred

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or a related field.
• Five or more years of related experience with business intelligence in a higher education institution.
• Appropriate business intelligence software certifications, such as Desktop Specialist, Certified Data Analyst, Server Associate, Consultant, or Architect.
• Advanced to expert skill in Tableau Desktop, Prep, and Server.
• Familiarity with programming tools such as Python.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively present technical information and concepts to non-technical audiences.

Pay Grade: 53 Typical Starting Pay: $75,000 - $97,000 The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
