Organizational context: The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) globally leads, supports, and oversees the UN Security Management System. UNDSS enables the safe delivery of UN programs in challenging environments by managing security risks. This internship is within the Office of the Chief of Staff, Insight and Accountability Unit, supporting senior management on strategic planning and UN mandate implementation.

Job purpose: This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience within a dynamic organization focused on security risk management. The role contributes to the UN's mission of enabling program activities through trusted security leadership. Interns will gain new skills, advance security expertise, and contribute to peace, security, human rights, and Sustainable Development Goals. The position is situated in the Office of the Chief of Staff, Insight and Accountability Unit, supporting strategic planning and the implementation of the UN mandate by ensuring the safety and security of personnel.

• The intern will work under the direct supervision of a Programme Management Officer, collaborating with the Insight and Accountability Unit.
• Key duties include supporting the development and management of corporate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through document review and research.
• The intern will assist in building, processing, and organizing survey data for evidence-based decision-making, and help create dashboards and visualizations for senior management.
• Additional responsibilities involve ad-hoc analysis and reporting, maintaining the Performance Measurement Dashboard, and supporting the transition to automated data pipelines in Microsoft Azure cloud and Fabric environments.
• The role also includes conducting research, compiling information, preparing background documents, assisting with meeting preparations, data entry, editing reports, and drafting correspondence.

Education: Applicants must be enrolled in the final year of a university degree program (Bachelor's level or equivalent), pursuing a Master's or Ph.D., or have already completed such a degree. Proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., MS Office 365) is required. Strong knowledge of analytics and presentation tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel, Tableau, SQL, R, Python) is essential. The ability to draft articles and take concise notes is desirable.

Work experience: Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have completed a relevant university degree. Computer literacy in standard software applications and familiarity with analytics and presentation tools are necessary. A keen interest in the UN's work and the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals are also important.
