Qualifications

Job description

Position Summary

The Data Analytics Analyst I the development and maintenance ofreports, dashboards, and data analyses that help informdecision-making across Ithaca College. Working under the guidanceof senior analysts, this entry-level position collaborates withother analysts and college stakeholders to deliver accurate,meaningful data and continuously develops proficiency in analytictools, methodologies, and AI technologies. The position supportsthe college’s human-centered approach to AI by using technology toenhance analysis while ensuring that human judgment guides alldecisions. This role also contributes to Data Governance and DataLiteracy initiatives.

Supervision

This position reports to the Director of Analytics and Special ITProjects.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Data analysis and reporting
  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards under the guidanceof senior analysts to provide accurate, meaningful, and actionableinformation.
  • Analyze and interpret data to support decision-making acrossthe institution.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation for data models,reports, dashboards, and analytics processes to support consistencyand knowledge sharing.
Stakeholder collaboration and support
  • Collaborate with analysts and campus stakeholders to understanddata, reporting, and business needs and support the development ofeffective analytics solutions.
  • Support data literacy initiatives by helping stakeholdersunderstand and effectively use data, reports, and analytics acrossthe institution.
Analytics tools and technical development
  • Develop proficiency in data analytics tools and methodologiesand apply them to support reporting and analysis activities.
  • Develop familiarity with the college’s Data Lakehouseenvironment and assist with support tasks as needed.
  • Provide support for data modeling efforts as needed; primaryresponsibility for data modeling rests with other roles on theteam.
AI integration
  • Apply AI tools effectively and responsibly across all aspectsof the role, including data analysis, report development,documentation, and testing consistent with the college’shuman-centered approach to AI.
  • Engage with emerging AI technologies, especially in relation tothe use of college data, and stay current with developments ingenerative and machine learning.
  • Support AI-related activities including prompt design, datagathering, and testing.
Data governance
  • Participate in data governance efforts by following datastandards, policies, and regulations.
  • Support efforts to promote consistent, accurate, andresponsible use of institutional data.
Qualifications

The Data Analytics Analyst I at Ithaca College is an entry-levelposition. Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree inbusiness, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field,and should be able to demonstrate the following:

Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Science, InformationSystems, or a related field.
  • Experience with data analysis through coursework, academicprojects, internships or professional experience.
  • Foundational understanding of statistics and quantitativereasoning
  • Working knowledge of Excel or a similar tool, includingformulas and basic data organization.
  • Interest in and willingness to learn and apply AI toolsresponsibly and effectively.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical andnon-technical audiences.
  • Ability to learn and apply data analytics tools andmethodologies.
  • Demonstrated analytical curiosity, with the ability toinvestigate data, identify patterns and trends, solve problems, andadapt to new technologies and analytical methods.
Preferred
  • Experience writing basic SQL queries to retrieve and preparedata.
  • Exposure to Python, R, or a similar programming languages.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI orTableau.
  • Experience using generative AI tools through coursework,projects, or work experience.
Work Environment

This position works primarily in an office environment with regularuse of computers, technology systems, and standard officeequipment. The role requires the ability to communicateeffectively, collaborate with others, and perform work usingdigital tools and systems.

Hiring Range
