Job Summary:

The head coach will lead and direct all aspects of the competitiveintercollegiate sport to include coaching and teaching effectivestrategy, technique and training, recruitment of qualifiedstudent-athletes, and teaching of courses in PALS and/or carryingout assigned administrative responsibilities within theIntercollegiate Athletics department. The head coach is responsiblefor ensuring compliance with NCAA, Conference, and Ithaca Collegerules and regulations, establishing appropriate competitive anddevelopmental goals and objectives for each season. The head coachwill be involved with some aspects of alumni relations within theirsport and will support fundraising efforts for special initiativesin their program or the department of athletics.

Job Duties:

1. Plan, direct, and conduct in-season and where appropriate andpermissible non-traditional and post-season team and individualathlete practices and competitions.
2. Design instructions for individual student athletes and forspecific team needs, and teach proper skills, skill development,and team concepts to student athletes.
3. Develop, demonstrate, and promote multicultural awareness andcontribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectfulCollege community. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity andinclusion as a college priority, communicate to employees anexpectation of behavior that is civil and inclusive wheninteracting with all staff, faculty, students and visitors andpromote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and livingenvironment.
4. Analyze opponent performance; present and develop competitionstrategies that are commensurate with appropriate tactics.
5. Oversee the promotion of student athlete safety and well beingin all training sessions, conditioning activities, practiceactivities and competitions. Provide student athletes withinstruction regarding physical health and safety.
6. Monitor the academic progress of each student athlete. Counciland advise student athletes about plans for setting goals, academicsuccess, appropriate social conduct and other life skills topics,communication with media, and other personal and sport relatedissues.
7. Oversee, coordinate and supervise recruitment efforts toinclude identification of and correspondence with prospectivestudent athletes via mail, e-mail, telephone, text and faxmessages, and in-person visits; coordinate efforts with assignedassistant coach(es).
8. Present and discuss information related to Ithaca Collegestudent host and prospective student athlete responsibilities priorto releasing a prospect for a campus overnight recruitingvisit.
9. Oversee the process of selecting, maintaining, monitoring andevaluating all team members; including athlete talent assessment,academic eligibility, and individual sport performance.
10. Attend and participate in appropriate national or regionallevel coaching clinics and/or conventions to improve and increaseoverall knowledge of coaching techniques and practices.
11. Prepare and submit sport related budget and provide specificinput on all team travel, lodging and meals. Submit travelitinerary for all away competitions to athletics administrationsapproximately one week prior to scheduled events.
12. Evaluate, select and recommend for purchase sport relatedequipment, uniform and supplies. Oversee the distribution andrecovery of all equipment, uniforms and supplies. Ensure andmonitor an inventory control system for all equipment, uniforms andsupplies.
13. Assist and collaborate respectively with the appropriateathletics administrators creating practice and competitionschedules.
14. Oversee the arrangement of officials for all appropriate homecompetitions.
15. Identify problems and/or concerns regarding athletic facilitiesand work with the Associate Director of Athletics or otherathletics administrators in an attempt to resolve facility-relatedconcerns, especially those involving safety issues.
16. Participate in identifying candidates for assistant coachingpositions and assist in the selection process. Supervise andevaluate the performance of full and part-time assistant coaches,graduate assistants and volunteer coaches and provide input ontheir evaluations.
17. Engage in various fundraising projects and related programs andactivities promoting the athletics program to include ensuring thatsport specific fundraising goals are met. This may involveparticipation in public relations opportunities with faculty,staff, students, alumni, parents and news media.
18. Attend all scheduled staff meetings, unless excused byimmediate supervisor.
19. Serve on various College committees and seek out opportunitiesto serve on national and regional sports committees.
20. Complete various assigned reports including the sport relatedannual report, and submit to immediate supervisor in a timelymanner.
21. Meet annually with immediate supervisor and/or the Director toreview student athlete and administrative evaluations, andestablish personal and professional goals and objectives for thefollowing year.
22. Perform other related duties in concert with establishedwork-load percentages. This may include teaching in the School ofHSHP and/or managing an administrative assignment in the athleticsprogram.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years coaching experience;knowledge of and interest in men's and women's sports; experiencescheduling and coordinating special events or athletic contest,demonstrated ability to develop, monitor and reconcile variousdepartmental and program budgets; ability to cultivate aninclusive, diverse and welcoming environment; ability to treat allpeople equitably and with a sensitivity and awareness to culturaldifference; demonstrated ability to hold others accountable forbehavior that is supportive of a community that is diverse andinclusive; extensive knowledge of various word processing,spreadsheet and database software applications, excellentorganizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communicationskills, and strong attention to detail are required. Master'sdegree is preferred and must be completed within two academicyears.

This position is 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

Hiring Range:

$70,000-$72,000, commensurate with qualifications andexperience.
