Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in data analytics, statistics, educational research, or a related field.
  • Professional experience in higher education or a data-focused environment.
  • Familiarity with Ellucian Banner/ODS or other higher education enterprise systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SQL for data extraction and transformation.
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).

Responsibilities

  • Extracts, cleans, and prepares data using programming language such as SQL and SPSS.
  • Conducts advanced statistical analyses and predictive modeling to support strategic enrollment forecasting, resource allocation, student success initiatives, etc.
  • Collaborates with the Vice President to translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights tailored for stakeholders at all levels.
  • Responds to ad hoc data requests from internal and external stakeholders with accurate, timely, and clearly presented information.
  • Develops, maintains, and automates data reports, dashboards, and visualizations to track institutional key performance indicators and support planning, program review, and accreditation activities.
  • Develops and maintains documentation for data processes, reporting standards, and methodologies to ensure clarity, consistency, and repeatability.
  • Ensures data integrity, consistency, and appropriate use in compliance with internal standards and external reporting requirements.
  • Stays current with trends in higher education data analytics, artificial intelligence, and institutional effectiveness.

Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, enrolling more than 26,000 students at its three campuses in Selden, Brentwood, and Riverhead, as well as its Culinary Arts Center in Riverhead. Established in 1959, the college offers a wide array of transfer-oriented associate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences; business; communications and the arts; computing and cybersecurity; health sciences; and many other areas. Career-facing degrees and certificates are offered in allied health professions, automotive technology, culinary and baking, manufacturing, and many other areas. The college provides high school concurrent enrollment opportunities to thousands of students each year through both Suffolk’s Beacon program and through on-campus early college classes. Announcement is hereby made for a full-time (12-month), Specialist, Data Analyst position for the Spring 2027 semester in the Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness located on the Ammerman Campus in Selden.

This position will support the Vice President for Planning and Institutional Effectiveness and is a direct report to the Associate Director for Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness and will provide support in the areas of institutional research, data analysis, and institutional effectiveness. This position will collaborate with a team of professionals to gather, analyze, distribute and communicate institutional data in a timely manner to assist the college in making data-informed decisions. This role is a key member of the college’s institutional research team, providing expertise in support of data-driven planning, assessment, and strategic decision-making.

The Data Analyst will contribute to the development and maintenance of analytical tools and reports that inform institutional effectiveness, enrollment management, and student success initiatives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to prioritize their workload, have experience using SQL to extract data from Banner/ODS and utilize SPSS to conduct data analysis, and create dashboards. In addition, the candidate will understand the importance of institutional assessment and demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the college.
