Job summary

The Midtown Group is seeking a junior Data Analyst to support a local government sustainability division on a long-term contract. The position is mostly onsite, with the office in the northeastern quadrant of Washington, D.C., requiring four days per week in the office.

Responsibilities include data management, KPI tracking, energy and GHG reporting, and coordination with facilities teams. The ideal candidate will have strong Excel skills and a foundation in energy sustainability data sets.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in weekly Energy Management Plan meetings as the data liaison.
  • Track BEPS ACP energy and GHG reductions with vendor support.
  • Monitor building energy performance and compare to standards by type.
  • Track office energy and GHG emissions per environmental laws.
  • Liaise with Capital Construction and Facilities Management divisions.
  • Reconcile data across utility, CIP, Net Zero, Energy Retrofit, and Solar programs.
  • Review energy models and track modeled vs actual EUI scores.
  • Manage energy KPI, workload measures, initiatives, and quarterly reports.
  • Lead LEED Data Sharing and Green Power credits activities.
  • Serve as technical lead for enterprise data warehouse development.
  • Cross-walk records across division source systems for consistency.

Job description

The Midtown Group is actively recruiting for a junior level Data Analyst to support a local government client's sustainability division on a long-term contract basis.

This is a mostly onsite role requiring the hired individual to be in the office 4 days a week. The office is located in northeastern quadrant of Washington, D.C.

SUSTAINABILITY DATA ANALYST
Qualifications
  • Top notch quantitative analysis skills.
  • Experience managing and manipulating data.
  • Experience integrating and drawing conclusions based on a multitude of data sets.
  • Expertise with Excel is a must.
  • Problem solver; Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn about sustainability topics.
Preferred
  • Experience with energy and sustainability data sets and systems, including ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, utility bill management platform(s), LEED submissions, Net Zero Energy certifications, and/or GHG databases.
  • Experience with construction and facilities management data sets and systems, including construction project management platform(s) and/or Salesforce.
  • Experience working with energy, greenhouse gas emission, renewable energy production, and building data.
  • Experience creating or reviewing building energy models.
  • Familiarity with DC laws and regulations, including the Building Energy Performance Standards.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Internal Functions
  • Participate in and be the data liaison for weekly Energy Management Plan (EMP) meetings, including responding to data requests from EMP team members.
  • Track, with assistance from vendor, Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) Alternative Compliance Plan (ACP) energy and GHG reductions.
  • Monitor building energy performance and compare performance to published standards by building type.
  • Track the office's annual energy and GHG emissions according to the baselines and metrics of environmental laws and regulations.
  • Liaise with the Capital Construction Services and Facilities Management divisions
  • Reconcile, update, and track data points from the organization's utility management platform, Capital Improvement Plans, Net Zero Energy Program, Energy Retrofit Program, and Solar PV Program.
  • Review new construction/modernization energy models, including tracking modeled and actual energy use intensity (EUI) scores.
  • Manage the office's energy-related key Performance Indicators (KPI), Work Load Measures, Strategic Initiatives, quarterly.
  • Manage DGS’ LEED Data Sharing and Green Power credits and associated letters.
  • Serve as the technical lead for the development of an enterprise data warehouse.
  • Cross walk records among different division source systems, including reconciling building names, addresses, and occupying agencies.
  • Coordinate with Energy Service Performance Contractor advisor on Measurement and Verification.
  • Manage Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU) rebate applications through the DC
  • Support geospatial analysis of impervious surface area utility charges.
  • Perform other data and reporting duties as assigned.
External Functions
  • Manage ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager benchmarking for the organization's portfolio.
Management includes:
  • Quarterly internal reporting, annual reporting to DOEE by April 1st;
  • Surveying client agencies, building managers, etc. to update building use
  • Responding to DOEE regarding QA/QC after April 1st benchmarking submission.
  • Oversee the office's submission to DOEE’s greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory.
  • Report on the organization's annual DOEE Sustainable DC and Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA) Resilience DC metrics.
