Job summary

State of Oklahoma is seeking a Data Analyst for the Oklahoma State Department of Education. The role collaborates with stakeholders, provides technical assistance, conducts audits, and manages data requests to streamline reporting. The position requires on-site presence in Oklahoma City with no remote options.

The candidate will support data-driven decision making, ensure data accuracy and integrity, and help shape education policies and practices across Oklahoma.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics); official transcripts required upon hire.
  • One year of experience with a data visualization and BI tool (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Two years of programming experience in SQL and/or other languages.
  • Two years of experience in data management and evaluation of web applications and data sets.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools/software (Excel, SAP, SPSS, SAS, R, Python) and successful completion of a proficiency test.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Author complex SQL queries and interpret data to generate actionable insights.
  • Develop documentation for data processes and collections to promote consistent data management.
  • Implement quality control measures for data integrity and collaborate on standardized reports and dashboards.
  • Provide technical assistance to school districts and stakeholders with data inquiries and data-driven approaches.
  • Coordinate data system improvements; manage large data requests and communicate software needs.
  • Engage in professional development and reporting-focused meetings.

Job Description

Data Analyst position at the Oklahoma State Department of Education is a multifaceted role, collaborating with stakeholders, providing technical assistance, conducting audits, managing data requests, integrating systems, and streamlining data reporting processes. Your contributions will be vital in supporting informed decision-making and driving continuous improvement in the education sector. As a Data Analyst, you will have a crucial responsibility in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of education data. By playing an active role in shaping data-driven education policies and practices, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on improving education outcomes for students throughout Oklahoma.

This role requires a consistent, in-person presence at the designated workplace in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and does not offer remote, telecommuting, or hybrid options.

Essential Functions

  • Knowledge and Experience: Strong SLQ skills with the ability to author complex queries, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and generate actionable insights. Familiarity with education data systems, reporting requirements, policies, and regulations. Attention to detail, prioritizing data accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality. Proficiency in ETL processes and creating visually compelling data visualizations, reports, and presentations.
  • Data Analysis and Management: Perform comprehensive data analysis, utilizing statistical techniques and data visualization tools. Develop documentation for data processes and collections, promoting consistent and effective data management practices.
  • Data Integrity and Reporting: Implement quality control measures for data integrity, conduct audits, and ensure compliance with state and federal reporting requirements. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop standardized reports and dashboards for monitoring educational performance and progress.
  • Technical Assistance and Research: Provide technical assistance to school districts and stakeholders, offering guidance on data-related inquiries and data-driven approaches. Support research initiatives, collect, analyze, and interpret data, and collaborate on evaluation methodologies for evidence-based decision-making.
  • Data System Management and Coordination: Collaborate with IT teams to enhance data systems, promote data sharing, and ensure accurate submission of federal and state-mandated reports. Coordinate large data requests from various agencies and organizations. Communicate software requirements and create comprehensive test cases.
  • Engagement and Professional Development: Engage in advanced SQL courses and training opportunities through internal and external resources, actively participate in reporting-focused meetings, and engage in professional development activities to stay updated on data analysis methodologies, tools, and education policies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, or related field [official transcripts required upon hire];
  • One (1) year of experience with a data visualization and business intelligence tool (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
  • Two (2) years of programming experience in SQL, and/or other programming languages
  • Two (2) years of experience in data management, evaluation of web applications and data sets;
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools/software (e.g., Excel, SAP, SPSS, SAS, R, Python) and successful completion of a proficiency test.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship now or in the future;
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license from a U.S. state or territory to perform necessary job-related travel.
  • Successful completion of a skills assessment as part of the screening process.
  • Less than 10% in-state/out-of-state travel may be required.
