Job summary

Par Pacific seeks a Data & AI Analyst in Houston to build data pipelines, automate workflows, and support AI-enabled initiatives across refining, retail, and finance operations. You will work with senior technologists to deploy enterprise solutions in Google Cloud Platform, translating complex business processes into scalable cloud-based tooling.

You will contribute to ETL workflows, data quality checks, and ad hoc data requests while learning the team's development practices and governance

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of professional experience in software development, data engineering, data analysis, or a related technical role.
• SQL proficiency including joins, aggregation, and window functions; ability to reason about query performance.
• Proficiency in Python for scripting, data manipulation, and automation.
• Foundational understanding of cloud concepts with at least introductory exposure to GCP or AWS.
• Familiarity with modern AI tooling — LLM APIs, prompting, or agent frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to break problems down, ask clarifying questions, and communicate solutions clearly.
• Comfort working in a lean environment where priorities shift.
• Experience with Git and collaborative version control workflows; familiarity with BI tools Looker/Power BI; data modeling; CI/CD; Airflow/Cloud Composer.
• Familiarity with oil & gas, retail, or finance data types preferred.
• Cloud fundamentals certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in building and maintaining ETL workflows on Google Cloud Platform, primarily BigQuery.
• Contribute to data quality checks, validation logic, and documentation for pipelines.
• Support ad hoc data pulls and analysis requests from business teams.
• Deploy and maintain components in GCP under guidance of senior team members; learn CI/CD basics.
• Help monitor, log, and troubleshoot workflows; follow security and governance standards.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to document processes and translate logic into prototypes.
