Job summary

Kenner Parks and Recreation Department seeks a part-time dance instructor to teach beginner through advanced classes for ages 7 and up, choreograph routines in Jazz and Hip Hop, and provide music selections for classes. The role also involves representing the department at classes and coordinating with parents during performances.

Evening hours with some weekends are required, and candidates should be able to facilitate community performances, parades, and classroom safety protocols while

• Must be at least 18 years old with a strong background in dance and at least 2 years of teaching or equivalent dance experience.
• Must be able to choreograph and demonstrate Jazz and Hip Hop.
• Must be able to work evening hours and some weekends as scheduled.
• Must be able to read and write English and follow program rules.

Responsibilities

• Instruct beginner to advanced classes in preparation for community performances and Mardi Gras parades.
• Represent the Kenner Parks and Recreation Department at dance classes to interpret rules and regulations.
• Report any problems to the Leisure Service Manager or Program Coordinator during class.

****THIS IS NOT A CIVIL SERVICE POSITION. ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE FORWARDED TO THE PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT****

Part Time:10 Hrs/Week

To teach beginner,intermediate and/or advanced levels of dance for ages 7 and up. Must be able to choreograph and demonstrate Jazz and Hip Hop. Baton is a plus. Provide music selections for classes. And to be a representative of the program for the parents.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• To instruct beginner/intermediate/advance classes in preparation for the community performances and marching in Mardi Gras parades.
• To be the representative fortheKennerParksandRecreationDepartmentatdanceclasses for interpretationof the rules and regulations.
• To be responsible to report to the Kenner Parks and Recreation Department any problems that may occur during class.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - HOURS WORKED

Willberequiredtoworkatassignedlocation ofclass.Workhours willtakeplace during evening hours with some weekends possible, and will be determined by schedule set by the Kenner Parks and Recreation Department, Leisure Service Division.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

This individual must be able to read and to be able to comprehend directions from the Program Coordinator or Leisure Service Manager concerning various rulesandregulations setforthby theKenner Parks andRecreation Department, Leisure Service Division.Must be able to actas a mediator and supervisor if a dispute occurs during class.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be age 18 orolderwith a strong backgroundindance and atleast (2) years of teaching or equivalent dance experience.

Desirable Qualifications

(2+) years of class instruction. Teacher certification.
