Job summary

St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN seeks a Dance Student Stage Technician Tier 2 to support the Dance Department during performances and events. The role focuses on setup, production, and striking of equipment, plus maintenance of theatrical gear.

Responsibilities include hanging lights, wiring, operating ETC Ion control, Q-Lab, and sound systems, as well as teaching newer workers. Part-time student employee with physical duties and safety training required.

Qualifications

• Interest in backstage work for live productions.
• Comfort with heights or watching others operate at heights.
• Hands-on work with tasks and instruments.
• Attention to details and following directives.
• Clear communication and ability to follow directions.
• Willingness to learn new tasks and skills.
• Knowledge of hanging, securing and focusing theatrical lighting.
• Coiling cables correctly and safely.
• Understanding lighting gels and how to change them.
• Knowledge of DMX, XLR, Cat6, 4-pin and power cables.
• Willingness to guide less experienced workers.
• At least one year of experience as a Dance Stage Technician or similar.
• Ability to tie a clove hitch.
• Awareness of backstage workflow during setup, live performances and strike.

Responsibilities

• Hang and focus lights.
• Run cable.
• Setup various audio and visual equipment.
• Take on various positions for Production Run Crew including:
• Assistant Stage Manage for rehearsals and live performances
• Operate ETC Ion light board for rehearsals and live performances
• Setup and run audio and video on Q-Lab for rehearsals and live performances
• Operate Sound Board and Com units for rehearsals and live performances
• Operate Fly Rail for rehearsals and live performances
• Build, organize and maintain props and sets
• Setup, clean, and strike Vinyl Dance Floor
• Maintain Theatrical Equipment and Dance Performance Space
• Attend annual Safety Training and observe safety at all times
• Guide and teach newer workers
• Additional Related duties as assigned
