Job summary

City of Raleigh is seeking a passionate Dance Instructor to guide children aged 3-5 through introductory ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop in John Chavis Memorial Park.

You will plan engaging lessons, foster a supportive and energetic atmosphere, communicate with parents and staff, adapt activities to each child, and ensure safe space setup before and after class. This role emphasizes building confidence, coordination, and a love of dance. Experience in childcare or recreation is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; experience in dance instruction or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of ballet, tap, jazz or hip hop preferred.

John Chavis Memorial Park is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Dance Instructor to bring the joy of movement and music to children ages 3-5. The instructor will develop and lead fun, age-appropriate lessons introducing young dancers to foundational ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop techniques. The ideal instructor will create an encouraging and energetic environment where children can build confidence, coordination, and a love of dance while adapting activities to meet the needs and skill levels of each participant.

• High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; experience in dance instruction, recreation, childcare, or related field, with knowledge of ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop or related dance disciplines preferred.
• Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.
• Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage and motivate young children.
• Dependable, patient, energetic, and enthusiastic.

ADA and Other Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Physical Requirements:

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity:
