Job summary
Schnabel Engineering is seeking a mid-level Civil Engineer with a structural emphasis to join our dam engineering team in Seattle. You will contribute to design, analysis, and assessment of dams, spillways, gates, and related hydraulic structures while collaborating with a multidisciplinary group of engineers.
The role requires 5+ years in civil engineering, PE licensure, and experience in dam design or dam safety.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
- 5+ years of civil engineering experience with dam design or dam safety.
- Licensed Professional Engineer with reciprocity ability.
- Experience in design of dams, spillways and related hydraulic structures.
- Knowledge of state/federal dam safety design methodologies.
- Experience with common computer-aided analysis and modeling programs for dam engineering.
- Experience preparing and reviewing construction drawings and technical specifications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel and oversee field work.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural engineering tasks across all phases of a project lifecycle for dams and related hydraulics structures.
- Develop structural models using finite element software (SAP2000, Risa 3D, Staad.PRO, or equivalent).
- Prepare construction drawings and technical specifications.
- Refer to industry standards and codes (ASCE 7, ACI 318/350, IBC, USACE).
- Assist with responding to contractor submittals and questions during construction.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams and CAD designers.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Work within the Seattle office and with other Schnabel offices to balance workload.
