Job summary

The Lower Sioux Indian Community seeks a First Grade Teacher Candidate to develop a Dakota Language Immersion curriculum for Grade 1 and complete licensure pathways through Education Minnesota and related apprenticeship programs.

You will pilot curricula, collaborate with elders and mentors, and participate in professional development to support a new Dakota Language Content-Based School opening in 2030.

Qualifications

• Degree in Elementary Education is required or pathway to obtain licensure.

Responsibilities

• Enroll in the Education Minnesota Native Teacher Pathway to obtain Elementary Teacher licensure by Fall of 2029.
• Begin Teacher Pathway courses and complete all field work hours at Cedar Mountain Elementary.
• Enroll in CWOO Dakota Language Apprenticeship Program to obtain a Dakota Language Teacher licensure by Summer 2028.
• Begin Dakota Language Teacher Apprenticeship and complete all field work hours at CWOO.
• Review research on best practices in indigenous and history education for K-1 learners and develop bibliography of existing Dakota curricula and existing CWOO curriculum.
• Visit and review land-based schools and curriculum in Minnesota, such as Red Lake and sacred sites around Minnesota relevant to Dakota history, language, and culture.
• Grow knowledge of Land-based learning and the Lower Sioux education plans through professional development.
