River Edge Behavioral Health serves more than 10,000 Georgians as a leading resource for mental health and substance use disorder treatments, supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Outpatient services are available at Emery Highway-Macon, Monroe County, Baldwin County, and additional county locations, providing behavioral health, nursing, psychiatric assessment, stabilization, medication maintenance, crisis intervention, education, and recovery groups.

Peer Specialist (with CPS Preferred)

Location / Schedule: 175 Emery Hwy, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provides broad range of paraprofessional social services to patients/clients/consumers and their families, participates in treatment team planning, and performs crisis intervention. Assists in dealing with personal and social problems.
• May provide supportive counseling to consumers and families and/or serve as a liaison for social services.
• Prepares lesson plans for group topics, maintains medical records and documents daily group notes.
• Performs case management duties, and delivers group skills training, referring clients to needed services and resources.

Requirements

• Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice or Human Services.
• Applicants most hold a valid Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) certification or obtain certification within 12 months of employment.
• All selected applicants must pass a satisfactory background clearance and pre-employment drug test.

Minimum Training & Experience

• Candidates must have a primary diagnosis of mental illness or a dual diagnosis of mental illness and addiction, and a willingness to identify themselves as a person with mental illness (current or former consumer of mental health services).
• Demonstrated strong reading comprehension and written communication skills, experience with leadership, advocacy, or governance, and be well grounded in recovery (one year between diagnosis and application to training).
• Must meet the minimum qualifications for Peer Specialist as defined by the DBHDD Peer Specialist Project and/or Consumer Health Network.

Preferred Qualifications

• Applicants most hold a valid Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) certification or obtain certification within 12 months of employment.
