Job Responsibilities

1. Perform microscopic examinations of ThinPrep specimens, both gynecologic and non-gynecologic, reviewing relevant patient clinical data.
2. Evaluate diagnostic possibilities and render cytopathologic diagnoses.
3. Consult with pathologists and/or managers on difficult cases; submit abnormal and non-gynecologic cases for final diagnosis.
4. Document diagnostic evaluations and revise case charges as necessary.
5. Review and electronically sign final reports prior to distribution, utilizing laboratory computer systems.
6. Apply quality control procedures as defined by hospital policy.
7. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide effective patient care and participate in educational activities, including the RI School of Cytotechnology.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s preferred.
• Completion of a formal Cytotechnology education program.
• ASCP certification as a Cytotechnologist required.
• Proficiency in laboratory equipment operation and manual dexterity for specimen processing.
• Proficiency in English language communication.
