Responsibilities

  • Prepares cellular specimens, examine them using light microscopy and report abnormalities discovered.
  • Performs microscopic screening and interpretations of gynecologic specimens with appropriate history retrieval and pathologist consultation.
  • Rescreens 10% of negative high-risk cases.
  • Completes microscopic screening and interpretations of gynecologic specimens with history retrieval and reporting of diagnosis.
  • Rescreens 10% of negative high-risk cases.
  • Assists with non-gynecologic specimen processing, including gross description and report filing.
  • Assists with special procedures and staining as needed.
  • Assists in accessioning and staining of gynecologic specimens as needed.
  • Provides instruction in gyn and non-gyn cytology to residents.
  • Develops workshop material on cytology for local and national use.
