Job summary

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Cytopathologist to the team at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. The role includes sign-out of general anatomic pathology cases, supervising cytotechnologists, and ensuring QA/QC compliance in Cytology.

Responsibilities include ultrasound-guided FNA biopsies, ROSE, and participation in tumor boards and multidisciplinary conferences, with ongoing education of trainees and staff.

• Sign-out of general anatomic pathology cases, including surgical pathology and both GYN and non-Gyn Cytology.
• Supervise cytotechnologists and ensure QA/QC compliance for Cytology.
• Maintain cytology statistics, SOP manuals, and regulatory compliance for all inspecting agencies.
• Participate in Cytology proficiency testing and reporting.
• Intra-operative consultations.
• Perform ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies of palpable and non-palpable lesions in outpatient and inpatient settings.
• ROSE: rapid on-site evaluation for specimen adequacy and preliminary interpretation.
• Educate fellows, residents, medical students, and laboratory personnel in cytopathology and FNA technique.

• Maintain cytology statistics, SOP manuals, and regulatory compliance for all inspecting agencies.
• Participate in Cytology proficiency testing and reporting.

• Perform ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies of palpable and non-palpable lesions in outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Conduct rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) for specimen adequacy and preliminary interpretation.
• Provide ongoing education to fellows, residents, medical students, and laboratory personnel in cytopathology and FNA technique.
• Review of abnormal Hematology slides.
• Participation in interdisciplinary conferences, including tumor boards and specialty-specific meetings.
• Performance and sign-out of postmortem examinations.
• Participation in departmental quality assurance activities.
• Teaching of medical students and clinical residents.
• Providing consultative input to referring physicians regarding lab findings.
• Occasional night or weekend coverage for frozen sections may be required.
