Job summary

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is hiring a Cytopathologist for NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. The role includes sign-out of general anatomic pathology and cytology, supervision of cytotechnologists, QA/QC for Cytology, and participation in ROSE and interdisciplinary conferences.

Board certification in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology fellowship completion are required.

Qualifications

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology per ABPath.
  • Cytopathology fellowship training required or completed.
  • Experience supervising cytotechnologists and QA/QC in Cytology.

Responsibilities

  • Sign-out general anatomic pathology cases including surgical pathology and cytology.
  • Supervise cytotechnologists and ensure QA/QC in Cytology.
  • Maintain cytology statistics, SOPs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead cytology proficiency testing and reporting.
  • Perform intra-operative consultations and FNA biopsies.
  • ROSE for specimen adequacy and interpretation.
  • Educate fellows, residents, students, and lab staff in cytopathology.
  • Review abnormal Hematology slides and participate in tumor boards.
  • Sign out postmortem exams and participate in QA activities.
  • Teach medical students and residents; provide consults to referring physicians.
  • Occasional night/weekend coverage for frozen sections.

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Cytopathologist to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. South Brooklyn Health is a redesigned health care campus featuring the new 11-floor Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospital which provides emergency care, modern labor and delivery suites, and state-of-the-art surgical services. Opportunity Details
  • Sign-outof general anatomic pathology cases, including surgical pathology and both GYN and non-Gyn Cytology.
  • Supervise cytotechnologists and ensure quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) compliance for Cytology.
  • Maintain cytology statistics, SOP manuals, and regulatory compliance for all inspecting agencies.
  • Participate in Cytology proficiency testing and reporting.
  • Intra-operative consultations.
  • Perform ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies of palpable and non-palpable lesions in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Conduct rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) for specimen adequacy and preliminary interpretation.
  • Provide ongoing education to fellows, residents, medical students, and laboratory personnel in cytopathology and FNA technique.
  • Review of abnormal Hematology slides.
  • Participation in interdisciplinary conferences, including tumor boards and specialty-specific meetings.
  • Performance and sign-out of postmortem examinations.
  • Participation in departmental quality assurance activities.
  • Teaching of medical students and clinical residents.
  • Providing consultative input to referring physicians regarding lab findings.
  • Occasional night or weekend coverage for frozen sections may be required.

  • Board Eligibility/Board Certificationin Cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology
  • Completion of a Cytopathology Fellowship
Wages and Benefits include

Annual Base Salary: $300,000* based on 40-hour work week.Sign-On Bonus: $20,000.Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.

The annual total value of compensation package is estimated at $425,520**, which includes the baseline salary, 401(k) contribution, sessional/per diem hours, and other factors as set forth below:

  • Estimatedannual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours worked per week is $55,520.
  • Projectedbonus of up to $40,000 (based on previous year’s average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.
  • 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):
    • Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
    • After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
  • Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement.
  • Generous Annual Paid Time Off (PTO): Vacation, Sick, Holiday, and CME days.
  • Medical, Prescription, and Dental Coverage: Top-tier plans with employee contributions significantly below market rates.
