Job summary

University of California, Irvine is seeking a Cytology Assistant to join the lab team. The incumbent will process and sort specimens, stain cytology samples, and prepare smears and cell blocks obtained by fine needle aspiration.

The role supports surgeons and physicians during FNA procedures when rapid evaluation is not required and aids GI interventional workflows, Autocyte prep system, and related equipment maintenance.

Qualifications

• Two years of applicable experience.
• Minimum 16 units of applicable Science (such as Chemistry, Biology) and Algebra at the college level.

Responsibilities

• Process and sort multiple specimens, stains cytology samples, and prepare direct smears, cytospins, and cell blocks.
• Assist surgeons and physicians with fine needle aspiration when rapid evaluation is not required.
• Assist with GI interventional procedures and processes Autocyte prep system.
• Assist with equipment maintenance, quality control, inventory control, and data entry, filing, answering phones, and providing results to clinicians.
• Compile data for monthly statistics.
