Job summary

UMMC Cytogenetics is seeking a Cytogenetic Technician to perform routine cytogenetic procedures under supervision for diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases.

Requires a bachelor’s or associate degree in a related life sciences field and knowledge of genetics, cell culture, and chromosome analysis. Day shift, 100% FTE, hourly pay with standard lab requirements and QA/QC participation.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of human genetics, molecular biology, tissue culture and basic hematology.
• Ability to stock and maintain laboratory equipment, supplies and chemicals.
• Ability to follow laboratory procedures and comply with regulations.

Responsibilities

• Receives, logs, and stores specimens; determines appropriate tests and billing codes.
• Initiates, maintains, and harvests cell cultures; prepares and stains slides for microscopy.
• Performs microscopical analysis, image capture, karyotype, and reporting.
• Prepares culture media, reagents, stocks and solutions; maintains supplies and QC daily.
• Maintains accurate records of culture processing, labeling, analysis, and patient data.
• Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations and participates in QA/QC programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
