Job summary

Apex Home Health, Hospice & Home Care is seeking a Cytogenetic Pathology Laboratory Director to lead interpretation of results from karyotyping, FISH, microarray, and Optical Genome Mapping across oncology, prenatal, and postnatal specimens.

The role emphasizes developing in-house assays, maintaining SOPs and QC, and directing staff within a standards-driven clinical lab. Academic collaboration and education are integral parts of the position.

Qualifications

• MD/DO or PhD in Biology with ABMGG certification or eligibility.
• Experience in cytogenetic testing, especially oncology.
• Experience developing molecular/cytogenetic tests such as Optical Genome Mapping.

Responsibilities

• Oversee specimen handling, testing, and reporting to ensure accuracy and confidentiality.
• Develop and validate in-house assays for clinical applications, particularly in oncology.
• Maintain SOPs, quality control, and direct technical staff in proficiency testing per regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP).

Key Duties Include

• Overseeing specimen handling, testing, and reporting to ensure accuracy, proficiency, and confidentiality.

• Maintaining standard operating procedures, quality control practices, and directing technical staff in proficiency testing per regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP).
• Collaborating with molecular and genomic pathology teams, participating in resident and fellow education, and engaging in research, publication, and test development.

Qualifications Include

• MD/DO and/or PhD in Biology, ABMGG-Certified or eligible in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics or Cytogenetics.
• Experience in cytogenetic testing, especially in oncology specimens and development of molecular/cytogenetic tests such as Optical Genome Mapping.
