Job summary

Ameritas is offering a Cybersecurity Intern position to drive IT security service delivery and protect information systems assets. The internship includes ISC2 Cybersecurity certification funding and hands-on work within Enterprise Security.

The role is hybrid (Lincoln, NE or Cincinnati, OH) with start in May 2027 and 12-month commitment. Interns will gain experience in security tooling, vulnerability management, and security architecture across environments.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a college degree program at least half-time studying information security or information technology or related field.
• Commit to a 12-month internship with full-time in the summer and part-time during the school year.
• Full-time hours: 30-40 hours per week; Part-time: 15-20 hours per week.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity, vulnerability management, SOC or risk management concepts.
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Desire to learn and grow; effective documentation and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with programming or scripting languages strongly desired.

Responsibilities

• Assist Enterprise Security in the department's areas of responsibility.
• Security Engineering: manage, maintain, and monitor security tooling; analyze and implement controls.
• Vulnerability Management: identify, assess, report on, and manage vulnerabilities; prepare trend reports.
• Enterprise Security Business Partner: evaluate vendor security platforms; review cloud apps; help build security architecture; bridge security and business goals; create practical security guides; support risk assessments and document requirements.

Position Description:

Ameritas is seeking Cybersecurity Intern to drive the business by delivery of IT security services and functions. This position would perform all procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information systems assets and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction. Interns in good standing for at least 6 months will have the opportunity to earn the ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity certification, fully funded by Ameritas.

Position Location:

This is a hybrid role (Lincoln, NE or Cincinnati, OH) working partially in-office and partially from home.

Position Start Date:

This internship will begin in May 2027.

What you do:

• Assist Enterprise Security in the various areas of responsibility the department is charged with:
• Security Engineering
  • Manage, maintain, and monitor the organization’s security tooling
  • Analyze and implement security controls in various environments
• Vulnerability Management
  • Identifying, assessing, reporting on, and managing vulnerabilities across the organization
  • Preparing reports that document vulnerability trends within the organization
• Enterprise Security Business Partner
  • Evaluate vendor security platforms, review cloud applications, and assist to build security architecture that protects company data
  • Work alongside professionals to bridge the gap between technical security and business goals, create practical security guides, and contribute to processes that keep Ameritas systems safe
  • Support risk assessments and document security requirements
