Kirkland & Ellis invites a Cyber Security Engineer II to join our Security Governance team in Austin or Chicago. You will assess security risks, manage vulnerabilities, and collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to strengthen our security posture across a complex enterprise.

Ideal for seasoned cybersecurity professionals who enjoy problem-solving and cross-team influence. Requirements include 5+ years in security roles, Windows/Unix product security experience, strong IT controls

Qualifications

5+ years of direct experience in security assessments, vulnerability management, or related cybersecurity functions.
Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Experience performing product security assessments in Windows and Unix environments.
Strong knowledge of IT security controls, enterprise infrastructure, and cloud technologies (Azure IaaS/SaaS).
Experience with security frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, SOC, and SIG.
Hands-on with security tools including vulnerability assessment tools, IAM, EDR, firewalls, IDS/IPS, encryption, and log analysis.
Scripting or automation experience (Python, PowerShell, APIs) preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication; able to explain concepts to non-technical audiences.
Self-directed, collaborative, analytic mindset; strong problem-solving skills.
Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or OSCP preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform security risk assessments on new technologies, IT projects, and third-party vendors.
Manage and mature vulnerability management and security assessment programs.
Monitor emerging threats and coordinate remediation and response activities.
Partner with Security Architecture to evaluate and implement security technologies.
Provide SME consulting on information security to technical teams, leadership, and attorneys.
Support development and maintenance of security policies and standards.
Assist with long-term information security strategy, planning and issue management.
Train, mentor and support junior cybersecurity engineers.
